More feeding questions...

SerpentsEmbrace

Hey... I'm sorta new to this whole 'having a snake' thing. Being I read up and found Corns to be a good 'starter pet'... I got a baby albino corn. The person who sold it to me said. That they fed them on sundays. (too keep it consistant) and so on. Fine great good. I'm not new to having pets mind you... I've always kept reptiles just not snakes... so I didn't figure I'd have many problems. However. Feeding is the issue. I noticed on this board theres no shortage of this problem... and read though other posts... It hasn't eaten in... 2 and a half? weeks. It's about 12 inches... Drinks water... squiggles around every other night. Doesnt 'poop' on me when I pick it up... But it does -go- I mean I assume it has -something- in its stomach. I saw that it might not have been warm enough so i got a heating mat? -fine- great good. Still no eating. I tried putting it in a seperate container. Still nothing. I try every couple of days... and he just slithers right over it or by it like it's not even there. What worries me is. Well I dont know an extensive amount about snakes but... he looks. 'skinny' to me. I dont know if that makes sense? Like if he curls around my fingers it looks almost as if he has loose skin? And at first I thought it might be that he's sheding? But... nothings happened with that either... gave him a 'bath' or whatever. He fought me... nothing happened lol I'm starting to wonder if im just... doing something wrong? Or... am worrying for nothing. Or... any other tips? I don't wanna force feed it... -seriously- and he seems alright... but. How alright can it be not eating. Help me? Remi needs to eat!

Oh and I forgot to mention. I've tried like... i read this somewhere... sorta nudging him with it so it bites? Remi's my little wussy or something because if anything touches him he hides not stirkes.

Also is it normal for him to be active 'every other' night? because... he skips days and i wonder... if thats... im just hoping its not from 'a lack of food' and engery maybe im just dumb about corns lol. Please be patient with me :)

Make sure your temps are right. Like one side of his enclosure is 82 and the other side is in the low to mid 70's. Heating is important. If you are sure that it isn't because he is ready to shed, put him in a paperbag with a pinkie at night, set the bag in his cage. Just leave him in there alone for a few hours and then go back and check. You can even leave him there over night. If that doesn't work, you may have a problem feeder and need to take another course. Like taking off the pinkies head and leaving that in there with him. I would say to try these first before force feeding. That is just my opinion though.

Get The Corn Snake Manual by Bill and Kathy Love from corn-utopia.com
It's really a necessity for new corn snake owners.

right... Well the temp. is fine... and I did the brained pinky thing as well. He doesnt -care-

If nothing else... -someone- answer me this. How do you know when an albino is sheding... his colors are a little more faded... but his eyes are still perfect... How long does this usually take... and how long will they stop eating before that happens?

Also... when should I 'get worried' about him not eating... i mean in terms of weeks... how long on waiting for him to eat is -too much-

Thanks for the responces though!

well

my albino is orange and red when it wants to shed the colors turn really ugly

like orange and somehow pink ..

well the snake looks like a peace of raw meat.

eyes become pink

:)

If his color is off, he is probably getting ready for shedding. His eyes will only be cloudy for about a day or so and clear back up. It can sometimes be another week before shedding. I have some that will eat up till the day they shed. I have one that will go for 2 weeks with no food and then sure enough, he sheds.
