More proof the Pet Stores are an animals hell.

Thanks, for pointing all of that Elle. I'm not a lizard person either, so I was looking at overall color and the fact that it seems to be actively crawling on it's tree. After what you described, it's horrifying to see. I truly hate pet stores that sell exotic animals. They never ever seem to be cared for properly so people feel the need to "rescue" them, which simply profits the store monetarily and they get more animals that end up in the same condition. Props for the OP for realizing a horrible store but NOT trying to "save" the animal in question. We can't save them all, unfortunately.
Yeah, I was looking at that too. I see the ribs now that you've mentioned it, but before I thought they were ridges that were a natural part of that cham or something... again, NOT a cham person.

Before jumping to conclusions and trying to get a possibly reputable person in trouble, I think Chris has the right idea in finding out the facts of the situation before misconstruing them.

But...but....but...what about outrage? What about righteous indignation? What about, what about, well what about ....wait, you mean you think that thought should be given prior to action? You are saying, here, in public, that just flying off the handle because someone ASSumed that something terrible was happening but not having any proof of such dire deeds is NOT the way to do things?

Why, I'm outraged. I'm righteously indignant. I'm....no, wait, I'm thinking...ummmm wait, I'll get it, just a sec....my head is starting to heat up from the effort of thinking in this mysterious new fashion you recommend....but this would mean that I, or you, as it were, would have to actually go beyond a mere emotional response, a visceral discharge of pent up frustration, to the point of actual fact gathering which could very likely lead not only to error on my, or your, part, but the learning of the as yet unknown...

It's just easier to get mad and go home, make a phone call and never find out the whys and howcomes. Facts can so easily destroy a good angry venting, don't you think?

You are a seriously funny guy!

But as you can see in pepper's post where she quoted me, I did jump to the same conclusion that the OP did when I saw the animal. However, Lauren's devil's advocate post and then Chris's follow up made me see the error of my ways. I know nothing of pet rescues, but it "seems" to me that the majority of locally owned stores really do try their best because they want every patron they can possibly get. I've seen too many close because they can't compete with the chains. If this guy was like the owner of the shop where Chris works, it could be devastating to his business. I personally would LIKE to know the facts behind the animal in question.

Chris has an excellent point. At one store where I worked we would OFTEN arrive in the mornings to find that someone had dumped an animal at our front door. We were in contact with several rescues and private fosters, but until someone could pick up the animal, they lived in the front of the store so that they were as separated as we could get them from our other animals.

Once, a person dumped a baby green anaconda with us. That store dealt mostly with smaller reptiles, and we didn't have the customer base to feel comfortable letting him go to someone. I took him home and made a series of frantic phone calls until I found someone experienced enough who was willing to take him. BUT - That day at the store, the poor guy was crammed into a small cage (We did try to make him comfy, we just didn't have anything big enough!!) and I'm sure to anyone who saw him it looked bad. Fortunately, he was dumped late in the day, so I was able to make him more comfortable at my home after only a few hours.
