I always enjoy seeing other peoples mice racks. If you have one post a picture here. Here's some pics of my two racks and the tubs I use to grow up the feeder/breeder adults.
You could use a plastic shoe box like tub. Mice will chew up anthing they can get their teeth on.... so plastic tubs that don't have any tabs sticking out on the inside are the best. For a 1.4 colony I would use nothing smaller than 12"L x 8"W x 6"H. I would get one young adult male and 4 females. One male and 2 females IMO isn't good because the male will pester the females constantly and stress them out. With four females it seems to balance out a little better. It's important that they are all very young because they haven't formed their own colony yet and will adapt to each other very well in most cases and form their own colony together. After you have them together leave them alone and don't change anything. I feel it's best to set up a tub with a food bin that will last at least a week and a water bottle that will last 3 days to a week. I've set up single colonies in a similar fashion in the past... I made my food bin large enough to put the water bottle (with a curved water tube) down through the center of the food and out the side of the bin. Not sure if you can picture that or not. Again... the less you mess with them the better. Also give them something to hide under or in. I find that mice always want to hide. I usually give my mice something to hide under but if I forget to put a hide in they hide in the bedding or under the food bin. I think they feel more secure when they have a nice hiding place much like a cornsnake does. Sorry so lengthy. I could have gone on and on but this should get you going.I am thinkin bout breading mice. If i can convince the wife. lol But nothing big casuse I only have the one snake. So was thinging prob 2 females and one male. The pet shop told me that i wouldnt' be able to keep the male with the female all the time i would have to seperate it after it was pregnant. Is this true? and can i keep 2 females together. I have a big plasitic mouse cage. But was thinging i would use a big plastic storage box or somethign. Will they eat a hole thru the plastic? any info would be greatly appreciated.
Yeah... buying the mice, putting the entire setup together, crosing your fingers and praying that the mice actually produce for you... that's the easy part. :grin01:newsnakeowner1978 said:tks alot vinny. great info. apprecitate it. now all i hav to do is convince da wife. lol.
