mouse of a different color

Hi Everybuddy,
Tonight I fed my snake (w/c), his first 'white' mouse. As I buy them frozen, it is always the "luck of the draw" as they say. But I just hadn't had a white one yet. In this last batch, there are/were three. Since he was a couple of weeks before shed, I decided to try one, knowing that he would be good and hungry. Funny as all get out.
Normally, I put him in his tank, and, (once in a while, Voilá), dinner is served. He has always, gotten a drink of water and sneaked up, opened his mouth and swallowed, like as not hanging from me or the tree.
Not tonight, no water, ran straight over to the mouse, twice slithered across him, then he turned around, grabbed it by the belly, (I'm thinking Oh No, he's gonna be in trouble), next thing I know, he throws the 'nelson' from hell on it, I'd never seen him constrict. So Cute! Yet So Useless!

I've noticed that most of my snakes prefer white mice/rats. I also buy my mice in bulk (frozen). I specifically request all white mice and rats now. I got some black ones in once and only a couple of my snakes would eat them.

I'm the exact opposite from CornCrazy. Most of mine prefer mice of "color", hence my question about fancy mice over in the Husbandry section.

I have some snakes that require me to drag a f/t white mouse through a bag of special super soiled mouse litter to get the effect they're wanting. Most of mine don't constrict white mice, just start eating. However when I give them a colored mouse, whoa boy, better make sure the lid on the container is on tight. My snow corn has a habit of snapping the lid off as he coils. =P

Kind of like me I guess, nothing more disgusting than a store-bought egg with a pale yolk. I grew up on a farm and pretty much have an eye for a "good egg". If it doesn't meet my ideal of a tasty egg, I save them and use them for baking purposes. =P

Im so glad this was posted! We fed my (now) adult corn white fuzzies when he was little, and at first white mice also. However, since I moved the pet store I go to only sells black mice. I have definitely noticed a decrease in interest on his part.

He'll still eat, but I usually have to wave it around and he'll tounge-flick it quite a bit before he finally opens up. Tonight I had to leave it in his tank for a while as he just was not interested (even though hes been pacing through the tank for 2 days now)!

My corn likes mice/rats of any color. As long as he's hungry it's all good.:eatsmiley

All the frozen I've gotten are white, and mine feeds readily on them. I think she'd eat a corn dog if it was warm though, so I'm not sure her preference is any indicator! She didn't constrict the f/t until I started holding the tail and kind of make it "back" away from her. She grabs and constricts right away when I do that.

Thanks for the concern, Im definitely a little on edge with my two snakes since my little boo passed away. The good news is that peaches (my now fussy eater) ate two small adult mice last week, so if he decides that he wants to wait a while before his next meal I wont freak out...too much

Peach looked pretty big...I'd say it is normal for him to not want to eat much right now. It's the beginning of breeding season! I wouldn't worry too much if he doesn't eat for a month or so. Typically during breeding season, I don't worry unless on of mine start losing too much weight.
