I got a new corn snake today (lovely little hypo motley -check out her picture in the photo gallery) and I know I need to leave her alone for at least three days to let her settle in.

My question regards the corn snake I already have. But, first, I want to say that he was angel when I handled him today. I picked him up and he was so cool about it. He used to get nervous. Anyway, that was off topic. Okay, I needed to move him to a larger cage with plenty of vines to climb on (he's a climber). Do I need to give him three or more days to settle in to his new home, like I'm doing for my new corn? Or, would he be okay with me handling him tomorrow night?

Thanks for your opinions!

I think you'll be fine. The main problem when you first get a new snake is that EVERYTHING is different...you, your home, their home, the sights, the sounds, the smells...everything, and it can be overwhelming.

Your "old" snake is already familiar with you, your house, and all that comes with it. A new enclosure will provide more stimulation than stress, I think.

Again...this is opinion, and not based on proven fact. When I get new cages for my snakes, I don't worry about it, and it hasn't caused me any issues yet...

I would be inclined to give your corn a couple of days alone. I would consider moving to a new home a source of stress for the animal - remember that the new tank and the new decorations will still smell different! However, this is just a personal opinion.

I would think moving to a new home would equate the same as being a new snake in a new home. IMO I would let the bugger be for a few days to get use to it's new home before handling. Just like you would bringing a new snake into your family.

It may recgonize your scent but still not be sure what is goin on in it's new surroundings. JMO.
