My Butter Died

Wet tail is basically rodent dysentery. Usually it comes from stress or change of diet. I don't believe wet tail would effect the snake whom ate it.
Also, after all my time working with animals, I have never known a mouse to get wet tail, especially a pinky. I'm pretty sure it's not possible, since their diet is constant and they can't really become stressed.

Also, just because the animal was docile doesn't mean something was wrong. I have one hatchling that is a total firecracker and the other is very gentle and calm, they are both healthy, with the docile one eating better than the hyper one!

i work at a pet store and my boss has gotten many rodents w/ wet tail. And when a mother or father has wet tail while mating and producing little pinkies, then they will be born with it most likely, i know this for a fact because that happened to a whole litter of pinkies, each one of them died because the father had wet tail, which he died also. there is a special medicine to help cure it but it doesnt always have full affect.

I agree that docility doesn't necessarily indicate illness. In that case, my amel male and my lavender would both be dying. Mellow as can be from day one.

Lucy is pretty mellow too and we've had her a month (she's 5 months old), and she has a great appetite and just had a perfect shed.

Really sorry about your loss, judging by the photos it looks to me if she was moving about and just stopped, might have just been one of those things, still not nice though

Sorry to hear of the loss... it could've been any number of things
or none of them.. but the loss is still a tough thing..

I just spoke with the person who bred this snake. I do not hold him responsible for the death. It looks like a fluke thing to me. Either it was not meant to survive or I ended up with a bad food item the other day. I am taking responsibility for what happened.

I wouldn't blame the breeder either. I would just let them know. Even if I didn't feel I was responsible for the death, as a breeder I would still probably replace it or partially refund.

That's what I would expect of a good breeder. Good for him!
i would agree also.........obviously it doesn't tell you all the information about him and/or his snakes, but just that he offered to do that for you does say enough to know that he should be considered a reputable breeder. at least some good news has come out of the ordeal (if you can have any good news with a loss).

He offered a credit for the price of her on any on order.
That is above and beyond what he ever needed to do.

I got her from John Schmitt of Suncoast Herpetological http://suncoastherps.com/

I agree with everyone else, that John did what most reputable breeders do! Again I am sorry for your loss and my thoughts are with you.
