Okay so I recently got this beautiful Hypo Snow Motley and I notice thaty he was sneezing all the time :uhoh: and I made him an appt to the vet around here but I wanted to know if it was ok for him to be doing that all the time and if so what can I do to help him stop. And I would like for anyone and everyone to give their thoughs on this.
 
Are there any other odd things you have noticed, such as mucous in the mouth/throat or bubble blowing from the nostrils?
 
no not really but he just acts weird nothing like my other corn that is the same age she is active but he just wants to stay in his hide rock and if I have him out of his cage his sneezing gets worse where he cant stop and he really hasnt been drinking any water lately. I just really want to know what other snake owners think before I spend alot of money at the vet if he is going to be okay bc I dont know what to do if he has a cold and I dont know what the vet would do either
 
It does sound like the snake needs to be seen by a vet. Animals don't get "colds" the same way that we do. It is more likely that he has a URI (upper raspatory infection) and if that is the case than he may need antibiotics. If he does have an URI then that can be very contagious. So make sure that you wash your hands after touching him or been in is viv. It is recommended to house them in separate rooms if possible.
 
okay thanks and I use the coconut husk bedding, I use it with all my snakes, and he just shedded about 2 weeks ago so I know that couldnt be it.
 
How long has it been going on? In the OP you said that you got him recently and that its been happening for "a while." However, he shed two weeks ago, and someone please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I have read on this forum in the past where a shed can lead to whistling and/or sneezing. Apparently in those cases it was due to minute amounts of stuck shed in or around the nostrils causing irritation.

Assuming that this has been going on two weeks...

Any thoughts from the veterans?
 
well I got him on 4/15 and the guy I got him from said he shedded a few days before I got him and he has been doing it ever since I got him so I take that back about shedding 2 weeks ago its been about a month ago. but I hvaent seen any stuck on shed on him.
 
If he's a youngster, then after a month he could be due another shed. Unlikely in an adult though.

Don't worry about not seeing him drink - I rarely see mine do it. They're just drinking when I'm not around.
 
well he's an 08 hypo snow so he's an adult and okay i wont worry about the drinking but he just stays in his hide out all the time unless I get him out
 
and I was just talking to my husband about it all and he told me that last night he heard him like dry heaving i guess not really sure and he said he sounded bad last night what could this mean?

There's that other symptom I was looking for originally! Its good that you have an appointment at least, because that certainly makes it sound more likely to be an RI.
 
Might also be worthwhile trying a switch to plain newspaper substrate to see if that helps. Although the substrate you're using is perfectly fine for Corns, they can suffer from individual allergies and it could be aggravating him specifically.
 
Okay everyone so I took Chua to the vet today and they are treating him for a URI and I take him back next Monday to see if things have gotten better and if not then he's going to have to have some x-rays done to make sure its not pnuemonia. but Ill keep everyone updated as this week goes by and I have to give him shots for the week so lets hope this works
