My first (AND ONLY) escape!

Hey people,

Just wanted to tell you about my first escape which happened LAST NIGHT. I have had my 2003 Okeetee corn for almost 11 months now...and JUST LAST NIGHT I came home from work to discover that he was missing. The cause was obvious. I spent a lot of time on designing an escape-proof cage...and my cage design is FLAWLESS..if I do say so myself . LOL Anyway...I have one of those cage covers which is a screen on a plastic frame . It has pegs on the side of the aquarium to prevent the horizontal movement of the cover. I had failed to see that when I put the cover back on after changing his water, the cover was caught on one of the pegs, which created a fairly large gap in the top...large enough for my snake to get through. Anyway, as soon as I discovered that he was gone...I went into PANIC MODE. I started frantically digging through his substrate to make sure he wasnt in there...and then...I started looking around every room in my house with a flashlight. For some reason, I went back to the same room where I keep him...and I started to take out the bottom drawer of a dresser I have in that room, and LO AND BEHOLD...I see the tail end of a snake sticking out. He wasnt on the floor underneath the dresser. What he had done (kinda reminded me of Bruce Willis in the movie "Die Hard"LOL) was to climb up onto a ledge that was UNDER the dresser on the INSIDE. So, when I started to take out the bottom drawer...he got startled and tried to come out.
Lucky thing he didnt even try to go through one of my heating vents...He is about as thick as a penny now, so I have my doubts about him being able to do that...BUT YOU NEVER KNOW!

:awcrap:

drawers under the tank

Thats the same place my big snow went!

I put the sliding top in sloppily, but the little pins were in. There was a tiny crack in the back corner of the tank, and thats were she got out.

I looked all around, and then stayed up at night to listen for movement. Sure enough, at about 5:30 am I heard a rustling in the dresser underneath her 40 gal. terrarium.

I pulled out the drawers, saw her tail, and then grabbed it and pulled her out. I kept her in an extra 10 gal. until later in the day when I fixed the cage and noticed that one of the things that the pins goes into.

Luckily, a happy ending. :D

So glad you found him!

Thank god he was ok! :) I haven't had my baby escape yet but yesterday he crawled up into the mechanism of my computer chair. It was my fault as I was typing and not paying enough attention but that sure freaked me out! I had to take the whole darn thing apart before I could get him out! Don't know how I would react if he got lost!

I had ANOTHER escape the very next week.

I have figured out the problem with my setup. Although I had my escape proof cage set up right...I didn't have enough weight on it. My snake escaped AGAIN the very next week. But, I figured out that it was because I had a heavy book on only ONE END, forgetting that he could push up the top on the OTHER END. I secured the cover very well the night of the second escape, but HE STILL MANAGED TO GET OUT. His cage is upstairs in one of my bedrooms...this time I found him ACTUALLY DOWNSTAIRS in a broom closet next to my refrigerator! In just a few hours...he traveled all the way down the steps, past the living room, past the dining room...and into the KITCHEN. LOL. I found him after searching for 2 HOURS!!!! Just goes to show you, you never know how far they will go when they escape. JEESH. I will feel much better when he is really big and fat, because then there will be no chance of him going down the heating vent. Anyway, I have solved the problem NOW. Because NOW, I have 2 heavy books on BOTH ends of the aquarium. LOL, and its been over a week with no escapes. So, I think Im done. In the event of another escape, my next step would be to put C CLAMPS ON BOTH ENDS OF HIS CAGE!!! LOL

i already useclamps and i have no problem with escapes. they are really quite simple to use after you get em on the first time.
BUt they are impossible to get onto the lid the first time. I meen absolutely IMPOSIBLE
