hi, my mum has finally agreed to letting me have another snake. this time i have decided to opt for a boid (boa/python if you are unsure :p). can any1 recomend 1 that will be a good first boid, wont grow too big (max 8ft min 3ft) yet will be a bit of a challenge.
i know this is a cornsnake forum but i didnt know where else to ask :D
cheers
dan

Pythons:

Spotted or Childrens. Neither get to over 4 feet, eat great, and are usually calm as adults. Easy to care for.

Boas:

Rosy or Kenyans. Neither get to over 4 feet, eat great, and are usually calm as adults. Easy to care for. Females get larger than males.

:)

Hope that helps!

You could try a ball python if you can deal with feeding problems occasionally.

Other than that, most other boas/pythons are not beginner snakes.

i can cope with feeding problems i know lots of ways of encouraging feeding.
im not a beginner :p jus a begginer to boids....

Then I'd go with a ball python. They are usually pretty good, I have two myself. Recently got them eating thawed prey after a year of nothing but live!

I'd wait on that blood python. They can be unpredictable and have lots of care requirements.

rpyal (ball) python or BCI (boa constrictor imperator) should be ok for a first boid i guess..

as for bloods. aren`t they potential 10 footers?

oooo i like the sound of that... but arent they jus normal boas?
would you really recomend a 10ft snake as a first boid? i mean id LOVE 1 but i mean.....
adult size?

If you can afford it there are always the insular (Island) supspecies of boa constrictors. You get the "look" of a boa, in a somewhat smaller package. They tend to be a bit more expensive though.
