my first handling

wow...I waited three and a half days after I got my new snake before i tried to handle her (I think it's a she) and it was more than worth the wait: not only was she a pleasure to feel the texture of, she was also pretty damn calm as well...

i'm over the moon, i've been so nervous about it...now if only i could think of a name for her...(anerythristic...any suggestions?)

Congrats on getting a mellow one. Most likely it will always be that way. My mellow ones always have. A name will come to you. Go with the first thing that comes to mind...it's usually the one you like the best. There's only one of mine that I changed my mind on.

I find that, given time, most animals will essentially name themselves. Of course, you have to know how to listen.

Congrats on the first handling as well.

bit of an issue: she didn't feed today...I think it might have been that I offered to large a pinky. Ah well, i'll try again on sunday I reckon...
:eats02:
oh, i'm also thinking of calling her humbug...

You might try putting it in a container and then putting that back in her viv so that she feels secure. Love the name Humbug! Tell us how it goes on Sunday.

cheers, i'll try the container-in viv thing. I'm assuming that i should put a lid on the container right? and that way she'll be able to smell the viv, but will also be more likely to eat the pinkie in the container...

Humbug was the name of our lovely african striped grass mouse, because she had stripes from nose to tail. It sounds an excellent name for an anery!

Yes, I'd put the lid on it, but I'd wait until Sunday to feed. If she doesn't want f/t, you might have to try live. I had three of my babies that would only take live.

Great news! (well, exciting for me anyway!) My snake fed tonight... I put her in a shoebox with a pinkie and left her to it, after 10 minutes I had a peek and she was mid-feed. It was a beautiful thing to watch, albeit a little weird...

Excellent. She may be like my little neon. Won't eat unless she's hidden away in a box.

well, it's been a while since i updated so i thought i'd take the effort.

Humbug is feeding fine now. She did refuse a couple of times, but persistence with the shoebox method, or more correctly the 'don't keep peeking, even though you REALLY want to' method! :santa:

I just bought some tongs, and as a result, i was able to witness the entire process...it would appear that either my hand, or my scent was a distracting factor...

Still need to get some pictures though.
