My first pips of 2011!

My first clutch started pipping on Saturday (day 54!) and is sure taking their time making their grand entrances. First baby was out quickly on Saturday, second out Monday, 2 more out today with 2 more pipping and 5 still cooking. Definitely proving that there's a temp gradient on my "shelf" incubation as the clutch is hatching left to right. weird! Anyways, these babies are a bit of a mystery so I'd love some insight as to morph before I predispose people by telling the genetics i *thought* i knew. looks like there's 3 of each so far, very even distribution. will update with more pics when they're out!

what were the parents? (or did I miss that? :p ) I *think* I see an ultramel anery and an ultra?

I'd like to get a few more guesses and see what the consensus is before i say what the parents are, since one of the parents is not what i thought it was. actually i'll see if i can post pics of them too. i will say there's no chance these babies are straight ultras...

i hope they feed well too! they're such big/fat babies (9g) i think it might take them a bit longer than "right after the first shed" before they'll eat...still lots of yolk in their bellies!

That first one looks like my little ghost did when I first got him, his parents were a snow het. hypo and a motley het anery, hypo, 50% lavender.

The others look similar to the hypo babies I hatched this year, with maybe a little more orange.

yours for sure is a ghost? that's, for the second year in a row, my issue...are these ghosts/hypos or ultramel aneries/ultramels?

so the dad was sold to me as a hypo lavender, but i know the guy (Ryan Beatty, he's on here) worked with ultramels as well since i had also bought an ultramel anery off him at the same time. the mom is a snow stripe who was part of the daytona raffle 2 years ago, and i don't know who bred her or what "hets" she could have. last year this male was bred to an ultramel anery and the babies looked the same, but there's also some suspicion that the mom is an interesting frosted ghost instead of ultramel anery. so either the male is an ultra lav (no amel babies yet), or the female is homo hypo as well (i suppose or het, but so far 7 out of 11 eggs are not normal). i'll have to keep thinking about this!

edit: well, i guess it is more likely that they're ghosts/hypos, but at least they're het opal stripe (o:

They look ultramel anery to me, the one from K. rene too... I have an ultramel anery and some ghosts and the ultramel anery has the same blue eyes, while the ghost has more greyish eyes. They both had ruby pupils though...
