we have no idea why. She was found, bloated, her entire body was puffed up and limp at the same time. As far as we know, she was eating fine and acting normally. Is it possible that it was maybe because she ate some subtrate or something?

Oh yea, she was a regular cornsnake and was 5 years old.

If it's Aspen or anything sharp... there's always a chance(extremely slim mind you) that a puncture was caused.
My guess would be that the temperatures were off and the snake's demise was brought down due to food rotting in his stomach or intestines.
Again, it's impossible to know without a post-postmortem, and I really don't think that's something you'd want to do...
