Hi All! I'm Danni, don't ask me why my parents named me Danette then proceeded to call me Danni my whole life, pretty sure it was just to annoy me! ;)
I love all things that creep and crawl. If it has fur (except for some spiders and rats) I'm not that interested in it. My friends all think I'm nuts but I love 'em anyway! :)
I'm about to get my first corn snake in a few weeks. I owned a garter snake a couple of years ago and it broke my heart when he died. It's taken me this long to try it again. I'm buying an adult because babies terrify me! Human and animal! :) Since he is only the second snake I will have owned I really want to do this right. I've been told the heat sources are the most important thing not to skimp on and I would love to know what some of the best kind/quality of heat sources are.
I'm so happy this forum is here and look forward to getting to know some of you!
P.S. I will post pics of my new "baby" when I get him.

Welcome, Danni! You've come to the right place for information. I just started on this site last month and have found a wealth of knowledge. I just got my corns last month so I'm going to leave your question to those more suited to answer. But anyway, Welcome again and good luck!

Hi Danni! Glad you found us. Since you have a few days before getting 'Jr.' you'll have some time to get set up and maybe read a little! Searching for anything on your mind is easy here. Just click on the 'Search' tab above. You can also search the FAQ section. I'd get a corn snake book too if I were you. There are two really good ones but one which is more 'newbie' friendly in my opinion is the one written by Don Soderberg. Look in Amazon I think you'll find it. In ref. to your heat source, definitely get an under tank heater to fit the size of enclosure you will be using. Since you'll be getting a larger corn snake a larger of everything will be used. Also to regulate the heat a thermostat is recommended. All this and more is here for you to browse! If you have questions that you can't find answers to do not hesitate to ask. There are many here looking to help!

Hi Danni! Yeah, this site has a lot of knowledge tucked away in it; you've definitely come to the right place :)

I would agree with kdickens that a heat mat is the simplest and easiest way of providing heat, and would also stress the importance of a thermostat - this is vital to prevent the mat getting too hot and potentially burning the snake's belly. I won't recommend specific brands as we're not in the same area and I don't know for sure that the brands I know and trust will exist across the pond, but others will be able to help :)

Thank you so much for all your welcomes and advice! I'm gonna love this forum! :)

Hi Danni!! How ya been?

Welcome to the forum!!! Look forward to seeing pix (when you can post 'em) of your new little sneaky one!

Just curious: why are you scared of hatchlings? They are extremely cute, totally harmless, and can be much more active than their adult counterparts. (I recently had a clutch of snows hatch out during the week of July 11th).

Do hope to see you around!!!

I would guess Danni is not so much scared that they will be bitey but that they might be a bit more fragile, whereas an adult might be more robust? When I was first looking into snakes I wanted a yearling or older as I was scared I wouldn't be able to look after a very little one.

Although that might just be me :p

Nope, not just you, that's exactly what I meant! :D
