My New Baby Peanut

I'm giving Peanut one more day to acclimate to his new surroundings!! I'm kind of surprised that big apple herp didn't send me any kind of previous feeding schedule but I guess I will just try tomorrow and then try again a few days later if he isn't interested!! So since I'm still not handling him the pictures are definitely lacking but I'll put more on soon!!!! He is absolutely gorgeous I'm smitten already and I haven't even held him yet!!

so were you able to handle him when you placed him in his new home, or did you just let him crawl out of one container and into the other all on his own?

I just placed the container in there and let him come out at his own pace, I'm sure the shipping is not the most serene experience so I wanted it to be as easy as possible for him!!

That's exactly the recommended way-- put the container in the viv and let them exit at their own pace. I remember Clyde departed his deli cup right away. Cleo took longer and when she did depart she buried herself in the aspen under the deli cup, lol.

I think it is rare for the larger breeders/retailers to provide feeding schedules and other records. You don't even get hatch dates with some.

I think your feeding plan is spot on. If he doesn't eat right away, you might consider the covered deli cup trick the second attempt. I think the little ones are used to being fed in close quarters so it often helps to keep the snake and prey in close proximaty. It also helps just to leave them alone in the dark.

I think it is not unusual that even snakes that have eaten go off their feed a bit when shipped and then introduced to new surroundings. The younger they are, the more susceptible they seem to be to it.

Best wishes. Peanut is adorable.

I'm so excited to see if his yellow develops more as he grows!! It truly amazes me how much they can change as they grow!!

You said that right!! My Ozzy hatched looking like long, wet coffee bean (I even entertained the thought of naming him "Beansie!"). He had dark brown saddles and was creamy looking underneath and throughout. Now, one year later he looks like a brick/orange/red & brown bloodred with dark brown eyes and marks near the eyes that look almost like teardrops!!

Thanx for sharing those pix of your beautiful little sneaky one!!

(When you really think about it, aren't just about ALL corns beautiful?)

Yes I have held him a little but he's kind of a spaz right now lol I forgot how quick they are when they're little!! I tried feeding him tonight but he wanted nothing to do with it so I'll try in a few days!! He has quite the personality though that's for sure!!
