My New Cornsnake!

Hey everyone I am a newbie and wanted to post pics of my new corn snake. This is my second corn and I had a ball python. I guess he/she is just your joe average color. Does anyone know if it will stay that dark and maroon when it is older?

I'm not sure what sex yet. It's 3 months old so how long until I can take it to a vet and get it sexed?

Hi Jla293. Welcome to the forums and congratulations on your new purchase. As far as color goes, all babies change somewhat as they mature, some more than others, but they all develope their colors. So, it would not be possible to say to what extent yours would/could change. How much depends on the snake. I have some adults that look very similar to when they were hatchlings and others that changed quite a bit.

About the age on sexing it, that depends on whether you vet will pop the snake or probe it. Popping is best done now while it is young and easy to pop and less likely to do any harm. Probbing should be done when it is a little older because it is much easier to go too far into the snake and harm it when it is small. So, the best thing would be to call your vet (making sure you get a herp vet, don't take your snake to someone who doesn't know what they are doing to have the sex checked) and find out what they prefer/suggest.

Good luck and welcome, again.

Looks like you got yourself a little okeetee corn, little beauty btw, he/she should grow to be a nice orange colour, okeetees are classed as normal corns.

Thank you! It will turn orange? He is really gold right now(and maroon and black). That's so cool I didn't know it would be orange when it's older :)!

Well......Yes and no. Okeetees are normals but not all normals are Okeetees. Okeetee is both a name given to wild caught snakes from a certain locale AND also to normals decended from them and those that resemble the coloration of them. An Okeetee is usually a rich orange or orange/yellow base color with red to red/orange saddles with definite black borders.

It is not easy to tell the exact color of yours in your pictures but it does appear to be a light gold color base so it may just get richer/deeper colored golden. It is not a given that it will turn orange, not all normal's base colors turn orange. I'm not saying yours won't, just that time will tell. It is a bit difficult to see the actual colors in your pictures. One thing though, it looks like it's going to be a great adult.
