HEY GUYS,WELL MY SON FINALLY CONNED ME INTO GETTING A CORN SNAKE, WE PURCHASED A SNOW HATCHLING ON JAN 6 2008. LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING I SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT ONE 20 YEARS AGO . I IMMEDIATLEY FELL IN LOVE WITH SLICK . IT TOOK A COUPLE OF WEEKS FOR HIM TO SETTLE WITH US...THE NOISE ,DOGS ETC . AND HE WAS A BIT SKIDDISH WHEN REMOVING FOR FEEDING, BIT ME A COUPLE OF TIMES ALREADY. BUT TODAY, WHEN CHANGING HIS WATER , HE CAME OUT OF HIS HIDE, AND SLID OVER MY HAND SO I PICKED HIM UP AND ACTUALLY HELD HIM FOR A FEW MINUTES. WHEN I PUT HIM BACK IN THE TANK ,HE SLID AROUND FOR FIVE MINS OR SO IN THE TANK THEN RETREATED TO HIS HIDE, GIVING ME A FINAL LOOK AS IF TO SAY YOUR NOT SO BAD, SEE YA LATER.............IS IT NATURAL TO BE THINKING OF GETTING ANOTHER 1 ALREADY......LET ME TELL YOU THE WIFE IS NOT PLEASED WITH THERE BEING 1 IN THE HOUSE NOW .......LOL ...FOR BETTER OR FOR WORSE LOL
\LOOK FOWARD TO TALKING WITH YOU ALL SSSSSSSSID

LOL, thats how it starts then you have 40-50 corns in your basement by the next year.
John

Slick, good name. Hello and welcome.
They do make you want more. I have only had one, but the photos section on this site is eating at me. So many colors and patterns! I have not seen an unattractive snake on here.
My Cheerio's vivarium is a huge thing, so the available "snake space" is already taken.......hmmmm......maybe the bottom cabinet part could be converted into shelving...hmmmm.......
Anyway, plenty of info and support(and nice people) here.

You just have to get your wife to think of him as a BABY and then she'll fall in love with him. Maybe that's why baby cornsnakes have those big eyes! That's nice that you got a friendly one.

Excellent Nanci! Hadn't thought of the baby angle.

Show her some cute snake pics from the photos forum, how could you not like a face like this......

No no... The CUTEST baby snake pick is the one with the snake in a shirt pocket looking up with doe-eyes. I showed that picture to a coworker who is deathly afraid of snakes. Her response was something like...

"Ewe!!
Awwwww.... it IS kinda cute.
<shudder>
Cute, though. (as she backed out of my office)"

Now she swings by for Butter and Vern updates. Even stood in the doorway as I held Butter following his last vet visit. I'll have her touching one next time.

Excellent, I bet once she feels them twice she'll be a "convert".
Usually when people feel my Cheerio the first time they are surprised by the feeling and movement. The second time they are more prepared and a bit more investigative.
My daughter loved the idea of having a snake in the house, but at first was apprehensive about handling her alone. Now, on nice days, she takes her outside "for a walk".

First off, :wavey: hello and welcome :) (I'm new myself)

Second... Maybe if you could get your wife to hold and play with little Slick, maybe she would change her mind... hopefully... I mean, seriously now, who can resist such an adorable creature?
