My new rack

Shep151

Too busy to hang out.
So I finally broke down and allowed myself a little more space. This rack is how I chose to organize it. I took the idea from Gus's page on rack building at Rio Bravo Reptiles
I think it turned out pretty good, and it'll house 40, once Mid-Missouri restocks their Rubbermaid supply. :crazy02:

Looking good, my friend...looking real good!

Now you just need more snakes! :crazy02:

I really like the added casters to the bottom for mobility.

3 inch wood screws, Pcar. The hollow core doors have enough of a skeleton to support the weight.

I cleaned out 4 wal-marts and a Lowe's to get those 25. Still need 15 more!
The rack is a lidless design, but I buy a kind of bin that is snake-tight with the lid as well. Gives me a few more options ;)

A little suggestion...

Wow, that looks great...but!

In the photo it looks pretty tall and thin and I'd be a little worried about stability/tipping. Have you looked into some ties to hook it into place on the wall? It would be heartbreaking if it toppled over and sent your snakes flying everywhere. I'll be building a rack soon. Thanks for the ideas!

I guess it does look kind of thin in the photo. It measures 28" deep by 80" long and about 70" high. It would take a heck of a lot to tip it over. :)

Well, you can't see it because it's not there. The shipment was delayed (out of stock) so due to time constraints I had to assemble it first, and the flex watt arrived today. It'll be installed on Friday. I wanted to install the heat tape on the doors prior to assembly, but I couldn't afford to give up my whole Friday. I wire each position individually rather than wiring a whole shelf. It's very time-consuming, but this way I can just disconnect a position that is not in use and conserve a bit of energy.
