My Research Copperheads

I'd really like to learn more about these and this topic. I did a search and came up with a bunch of titles for "Venomous Snakes" and "Copperheads."

Can someone point me to a good title, please?

Wayne

So I smell like musk right now, but I have some venom that I'm using for a demonstration at an elementary school tomorrow. Pics to come.

Image update. It may look rough, but the snakes relax and eject venom then go back to sleep.

And afterwards, they just relax and have a nice drink.

This is what the fangs look like after I dye them. This one was ready to be shed, so came off during the process.

They are very beautiful!! I would love to work in researching those beauties.. Oneday I will be close to doing the same thing with a different species :)

Why do you dye the fangs?

Attempting to remember what all Brandon told me about his research, I believe he said it was to know when they shed the fangs. If they were still blue they had not shed them yet, if they were normal colored it meant they had shed the old ones. His whole research project is measuring fang shed rate... (sorry if I got anything wrong, Brandon)

That's very neat! I didn't know that they shed their fangs as well. Learn something new every day!

What can be really cool is when a shed doesn't come off entirely and there is the other fang right there...I've seen several 3 fanged snakes.....but yet to see a 4-fanged one.
