hi Everyone
just thought i would let you all know about this big root i bought for Ruby's new viv. she loves it, she is up and down it all the time.
it had a hole in it that i hadn't noticed at first, well she tried to get inside the root. but she is a 4 foot snake and couldn't get all the way in, she had loads of trouble getting out aswell (i was close to tears) she got out after a long time but made a mess of some of her scales.
has anything like this happened to anyone else?
Needless to say we have blocked the hole now.

I had one get stuck inside my computer chair once and had to dissasemble it to get her out, but no tree problems. The next shed will probably take care of the scales that were damaged, so don't worry too much. Usually if they can get into it, they can get out.

We recently had a ball python come in at work. The kids had let it go into a bicycle helmet and it got stuck going through on of the holes in the helmet. It was VERY hard to get him out and LOTS of scales were damaged in the process.

Keep a close eye on your snake. It is possible that she may need some antibiotics due to her injuries. I would probably keep her on paper towels until she has shed and her wounds are healed.

My 4' snow manages to ram himself in under his waterbowl and scuffs up some of the scales along his back in the process. Each time he sheds he goes back to looking perfect again but unfortunately being an adult he only sheds every 2 months or so so he spends ½ his time looking scruffy! As long as it's just scuffs, it's just cosmetic, but if it looks like any scales have come totally away or there's been any bleeding, then take extra precautions to prevent an infection setting in. Good luck,
Adèle

thanks for the advice, the viv is due for a clean out tomorrow so i will put paper towels down this time. I have to admit she really worried me but she is looking great apart from a few scuffed scales ( no bleeding thank god).
I am glad ruby isn't the only snake who has got herself into a bad situation lol
