My snake is potty trained!?!

Ok I know its strange but my snake refuses to defecate in its enclosure. I have been feeding it every four days- the third day after feeding I give it a warm bath and it defecates in the water. I decided (since my wife REALLY thought it was gross to be helping the snake out that way) to stop bathing it on "Defecation Day". Well D-day came and went with no poo and so did several other days- I got really nervous for the snake because at this point she looked really swollen at her vent- skin stretched and fat on the lower part of her body- I was worried I had allowed her to become impacted. I gave her a bath and she went. I fed her and put her back in her enclosure. Several days later I bathed her and she went. After her next feeding I did not bath her and she got swollen and backed up again.

Its great not having to clean it out of her cage but I am concerned about the underlying reason why she isn't "going" on her own.

Any ideas?

I wouldn't worry about the swollen part (unless its REALLY swollen). It happens at the "peak" time when the snake has finished digesting. My corn does this and instead of doing a few poops he does one big one. I suggest waiting for one more day and see if she poops. If not, maybe shes not digesting as quick as expected because of temp.

I find it very convenient to have a snake that will poop in the bath. I use the guest bathtub (wanna come for a visit?) for that, and give them all a swim every other day and they poop almost every time. If the snake refuses to go in the cage, and you can't change its mind, perhaps your wife might be persuaded to allow the use of the bath? (grovelling, flowers and promises might work)

Ha Ha- Fat chance! There aren't enough flowers in the world to get her to consent to that. A big rubbermaid container might be good though.

The snake does seem to enjoy the water.

If you really, really, can't persuade your wife to let you use the bath how about a baby bath, that's what I use for my snake's. Make's me wonder, do they get dependant on having a bath to poop, be a bit of a problem if you had to go away for a couple of week's and who ever was looking after them didn't give them a bath.
