My snake Rose escaped!

Corn snakes rule!
Guess what? After just replying to someone else's post on here a couple of days ago about one of their snakes escaping, and saying how lucky I'v been basically cause I've never had that happen to me, well now it has. I can't freakin believe it. Rose-one of my normal corns is gone. I went to go get her out of her enclosure to take her outside to take photos of her earlier today and she was not in her enclosure at all. I looked high and low, and inbetween, everywhere I could possibly think of to look and have had no luck. If anyone has any suggestions on how I should go about looking for her/to find her please let me know? :crying:

well seeing as iv had my 2 snakes escape twice and finding the one both time and the other only once ='( i would say look at the lowest point in your home (basement) in the warmest part, and if it becomes cool in your home look around appliances that have been on and are warm, or lamps ect, warm places, if its warm, maybe do the opposite, but most likely you'll just be doing something and there she'll be

All I can say is sorry to hear of the escape and good luck with retrevial. Hope to hear Rose is home safe and sound soon.

I've had 6 snake escapes since i have had them, and all but one was recaptured (probably because the one was last seen in my neighbor's garage). There's a few things i recommend:First, try to minimize passageways out of the vicinity. Keep windows closed, and don't leave doors or vents open. Reptiles WILL try to get outside. Second, look in areas that aren't easy to get too, but still provide decent space (ex. is boxes). Third, They will probably go to the room with the most regulating temperature. 4/5 of my snakes have been found in the garage. Fourth, Keep food inside of their cage. If they get hungry, they may return if they smell the prey. Finally, look at nite with dim lights. Their eyes, like most reptiles, will slightly glow in dull light unless they are preparing to shed. When you find it, it will probably be by chance, when you aren't looking for it, so don't freak out or get stressed. The average snake can go a month without food. Hope i could help you, it really sucks to lose a pet.

Well, I did leave out a f/t hopper mouse inside a tuper ware container that I had cut a hole into. One end I had a coconut hide and a heating pad underneath...then on the cooler end I had put the f/t hopper mouse and a saucer dish with some cold water. I left it over night in my bedroom and didn't set it to far away from the enclosure thinking that she probably hadn't gone to far from it. But it was unsuccessful. I still have not located her. I don't have a garage/or attic or basement or laundry room in our trailer home. So I wouldn't be able to find her in those types of places. But we do have floor air vents and since we always have the air running I don't think she would go out through one but if a snake whats to it probably would huh, even with the cold air coming through?

Try putting down tin foil covered with flour and put around the perimeter of closets ect ect. They can't crawl on it. Sometime you will find them on it. If not, at least you can tell if they have been in the area. My buddy found his snake that way.

Also, there are some kind of "traps" you can set made out of coke bottles...Don't know how to do those.

I don't really think it would go out through the vent if there was always cold air coming through, if it gets to cold, they fall asleep. Anyway, the vent cant be big enough for rose to fit through. How big is she? Also, don't give up on the hopper strategy. I dont know how long she has been gone, but when she gets hungry, she will go for the easiest food source(or the smelliest).

Well, lets see I have now moved the washer and dryer twice and looked inside the them both. I've also moved all the beds away from the walls and took mattresses off too look underneath them. I've gone through every piece of clothing in bags that are up high in the closet and on the floor area of the closet and all the boxes and laundry baskets a few times. I've gone through all my dresser drawers at least three times now. I've even moved the fridge away from the wall and looked behind it on the floor and in the wiring/rods on the back of it. I've searched the bathroom cupboards and the kitchen cupboards on the low end. I've also tipped over couches and chairs in the living room and looked inside the cushions and underneath them. I've checked all the window blinds and curtains that are in the house. I'm not sure where else too look. I guess I will just keep looking in the same places and hope one day for her to show up. I really hope I haven't lost her forever. She was a very gorgeous corn snake. She's about 27-29inches long in length and 95.9 grams or a little bit more now. I've not done anything today but search for her. I'm exausted with worry and also already sick from having a head cold/headache ,congestion. Just please everyone cross yr fingers and pray that I will find her. Thanks for all the tips.

I've been reading stories of people finding their snakes in the weirdest places, one was even found in a backpack at school. That must have been funny. PM me when you find rose, i would like to know where she was found.

No, such luck so far....I'm not sure if she is even in the house at this point. More then likely not in my bedroom at least. I've done all the things I can think of to help her come out at night or for me to be able to find her during the day and I've just not been able to locate her. We don't have any antiques or plants in the house she could climb on. I sure do hope I will find her.

I disagree. I think a lot of corn snakes when they escape look for a close, dark place. In shoes, in drawers, under furniture. Do not give up. Keep looking in paces you have already looked. Do not forget to look up. Corn snakes are great climbers.

No, none at all that I can see or feel. I do not however have locks because I have not been able to find any in any of the pets stores here in town that have locks that fit the screen lids/sides of the tank properly. I've been to Petsmart and bought some and brought them home-they did not fit at all they were all to big-even though they said they were for ten gallon tanks/lids so I took them back-got my money and went to the Petco store to see if they would have any that would fit, and I bought some-they were slightly different then the Petsmart ones and took them home and tried them and they did not fit either. I took those back and have not been able to put locks on their enclosures because of that. I've been since I got the little ones last summer just been using heavy books/like phone books and other heavy books to keep them from getting out. The only thing that I can think of to be honest is that if I was changing water -or something over the weekend which I do not recall doing -because we had too many kids around for a birthday party and was trying to keep them out of my room so I hadn't messed with any of them. I don't know. I do recall seeing her in her enclosure on Saturday because I had looked in that direction to see if they were all still in there/ because of the kids being around and I know saw her then. But after that I am not sure. So I'm thinking that she had gotten out over the weekend probably Saturday night or Sunday. So she could have now been missing for at least 4-6days and I didn't realize it until Tuesday afternoon. I'm usually a lot more aware of them and all the sounds that they make when they climb and fall down from the top edges. I always hear them at night and get up sometimes to make sure they haven't escaped but since I have been sick with a cold/congestion and sore throat since Friday I've been more tired and out of it. I'm just so upset at myself for not being able to get locks for their enclosures and for not paying more attention then what I have been since I've been sick. My mom did tell me Tuesday after she got home from work when I told her about Rose being gone that she had heard something a night or two before and thought she saw something roaming around in the room but because she didn't have her glasses on and it was at night with the lights out she wasn't sure what it was or if it was anything since she says she sometimes sees things in the room that arn't really there. Which I have done before too especially when I'm half a sleep or tired and can't see well in the dark sometimes I think I see things, but it usually isn't anything. I'm just worried that it really was something that she saw/my snake and she just cast it off as nothing. She said, whatever she saw was close to the closet and the bedroom door. So I don't know. All I know is that I'm really worried that I'm not going to be one of the fortunate ones and find her. But I'm still looking and searching for her every day.

Thats so weird...how big is she? Could she have pushed up the lid? Do you think any of the kids could have messed with the tank?

That is just so weird...Also, try the tin foil with flour on in in the closet/bedroom where you may have saw her.

I have a friend who sprayed tinfoil with anole scent and caught his snake that way. They can't crawl on tin foil, and the messed up flour will let you know what area she is in if you don't catch her on it.

I don't have any anole spray or anything to scent the tin foil with...I'm out of mice right at the moment and have to wait until this weekend when my mom gets paid to get more. But I've went through the whole closet again this afternoon, there are so many boxes and bags full of books and clothes and I went through it all piece by piece to look for her. No luck though. I even took out every piece of clothing hanging up on hangers and put them on the bed while I went through it. I checked the hanger rod and looked up in side the closet where the door sliders are/the closet door is not attached but I looked up in there and didn't see her there either. Today I've gone through all the other rooms in the house-and the hallway on the other end of the trailer where there is three boxes of shoes-went through every single shoe in the house that I could find. I moved away the Tv in the bedroom and looked underneath it- I've even turned off the computer and tipped the brain box/modem upside down and looked inside it- and the side panels which are a little on the loose end and didn't see her in that either....I've looked up in all the curtain rods in the house and since we don't have any plants or antiques in the house that made it easier for me. But I've gone through the trailer and also have checked the air vents in the floor with a flash light and she wasn't in any of them either. I'm really running out of ideas. It's been since last Thursday since I fed her....I usually feed her one hopper mouse every 5-6 days. By this weekend I'm hoping she will be hungry enough to come out-if she is even in here anymore and eat the mouse. I'll try the tin foil with flour tonight in front of the closet and over close to where the enclosure is. But unfortunately I don't have anything to scent it with or use as bait. I honestly don't think the kids where in the room on Saturday to be able to mess with her cage but she might have been able to push it up...I just don't know. I took a nap on Saturday afternoon and for the most part the kids where outside playing and suprivised by other adults. I'm still crossing my fingers though that she will show up.

The only place that I can't get to that is in the bedroom and behind my mom's bed and behind a wall panel is the water heater. I know that there have been reply's saying that I should check the water heater area but I can't get to it easily. I have to take the wall panel off and to do that I have to have the right kind of tool which we don't have. And move my mom's bed away from the wall. I need to at least check it once though and I've asked a neighbor if they had a tool I could use but she hasn't gotten back to wheather or not they have one. So I'm going to go over there tomorrow or tonight and ask if she has looked for it or asked her husband if they even have one or not.

Rose is 27-28 inches in length and about I'd say 100.0 or so grams now. When I got her weighed in July she was 95.9grams so maybe a little more than 100g but not sure. She is only a year old.
