Man,,I can't get over how much my snake loves her new substrate.A few weeks ago I set her up in a 75 gal.tank.In her 30 she had coco nut bark, but I wanted to go with something differant,so cypress mulch(Forest Floor) was the one I chose.I LOVE it !!! Great looking,,nice earthy smell,,PERFECT.
Now, my snake only uses her rock hides once in a while. She LOVES burrowing under this stuff.I'm seeing holes and tunnel entrances all over :grin01: ...
I may even pick up another bag, just to make it a little deeper for her..

Someone on this forum told me 3-4" of substrate gives the snake twice as much 'floor' space. My snakes love burrowing and making tunnels. I always feel bad when I clean their vivs, because I destroy all their hard work. I use aspen which is hard to find here, Cypress sounds great, I'll have to see if I can find that. susan

I use eco-earth. both my guys love it. My 7 year old ghost corn burrows through it, occassionally popping his head out to look around, but he seems to spend equal amounts of time on top of the substrate, under it, or in his hide. He has also taken to climbing all over his viv too. Maybe he's happier that I switched to the eco-earth. My 06 bloodred spends most of his time under the substrate. I'm lucky if I get to see him at night (I have a nite-glo bulb on both tanks for night time viewing) and when I do its usually his head peaking out from the substrate or him curled up on the vine.
