You can use a heat lamp, but using an under tank heater is generally a better option. Corn snakes don't really bask, and they use belly heat to digest their food. I'm sure she would also love some ground cover to hide in.
Thanks! I just got him today on a late notice. So tomorrow were going shopping! I'm wanting to a fantasy Forest theme. He's having to deal tonight with toilet paper rolls and a rock to hide under. Tomorrow will be better!
I will post them! I'm a waitress so I only get so much at one time but give me a week and it'll be done! I been looking at the forum for other ideas also! I'm just trying to think of the supplies needed to do the theme. And that is what I did! He is happy with it so it will do for a night.
They typically aren't picky when it comes to hides so long as they have a couple to choose from!
I second the UTH with thermostat though. I have used just lamps in the past, and they suck, quite frankly. I found - ESPECIALLY with a glass tank - they dry out the air, and can be a pain. Plus, snakes require belly heat to digest their food whereas the lamps do more to heat the air.
Check out the care sheet on the main page it's awesome.
All the best!
Just don't forget the thermoSTAT (not just thermometers) to regulate the output of the heat. Please don't use the UTH without first getting the thermostat... it can (and often will) burn your snake!
Hope everything else is going well with your new friend!
