naming my... car?

..Yeah.
So as strange and immature as it may sound; I've known people to give their cars names and given my situation I figured a while ago that I should name mine too. But I don't know.... what to name it.....

I have a white '99 honda CRV. My mom recently bought a newer model of the CRV. The dilemma?
"Hey, grab the car and go get a pizza."
....which car?
"Hey, grab the honda and go get a pizza."
........ which honda?
the crv.
which crv?

The solution? Duhdun dun dahhhh. A name.
Figured it might be a fun and creative endeavor. Haha. Ha. Yeah I have nothing better to do with my life.

Any suggestions?

I've never exactly named a car, but I've had cars that sorta developed names. Some cars developed more than one.

I had a horrible, Pontiac LeMans (one of the early '90s compacts, not the big ones of earlier decades). It was a very ugly hatchback, and I called it the "Pregnant-Guppymobile". Later, some friends started calling it "The Magnet", as in "Chick Magnet", and it stuck despite the ironic nature of the name. :grin01:

The car I've had for the last 8+ years is a Subaru Impreza Outback Sport (wagon). Friends called it "The Sportscar" for a long time (stupid inside joke having nothing to do with the "Sport" model designation). Now they call it the "Lesbian Car". According to them, a lot of lesbians drive Subarus. I don't know how accurate their facts are; I'm from Vermont, where everyone drives a Subaru. :shrugs:

Well my hubby has a 55 Chevy pic-up he named Clarence. Have no idea why, we've been together 34 years and he has always had this truck and it has always been Clarence.
Why don't you name your car Animal, seems like it fits you and maybe your car. susan

I've actually named most of our cars... old habit really. I had an 80 or 82 Toyota that I called brat - she was a bit of a pain car, but I loved that car. Then the next car I got was a 94 Hyundai Excel, it was built on a Tuesday and the best car I ever had. Put well over 200,000 miles on that boy... He didn't get a proper name until I married Tim, though I'd had the car for years before. We called him Old Red.

Tim's 00 or 99 Hyundai Accent was named Periwinkle by our daughter, after the Blue's Clues character - because the car is sort of purplish in color. lol. Then the Grand Am we had was called Pony Girl or the Pontiwreck. My youngest called it the Damned Damn or the Grand Damn for she got used to saying Grand Am. I didn't encourage her, but it did sound so cute the first time she said it and it did fit the car.

We have a Saturn wagon now that needs a name, but nothing has jumped out at us yet. We do tend to refer to it as Grandma's Car, but that's a long story...

ANYway, to get on topic here... do you feel that the car is male or female? That makes a big difference when it comes to names, I think... Most people tend to think cars are feminine, but my boys always lasted longer then the girls.

Ohh, I can't think of what my grandma named her car! It was like a Disney's Princess's name or something. It may have just been Beauty from Beauty and the Beast. Did Beauty have a name?

My first car was a 74 Buick Riviera. Because of its size, it got named the "Tank".

My current car is a yellow Subaru WRX. My best friend calls it the "Taxi".

What color is your CRV?

Belle was her name

Ohh that might have been the cars name! Thanks Susan!

So Animal Gal...I guess you should name it after something you like...character from a movie maybe?

lol well i have yet to own my first car but looove cars in general everything about them. For names c'mon now you can't just ask people to help you think of a name for your car then just start calling it that there has to be a reason for it or its gotta come to you some how. If your gonna ask for names just go look in the babybook of names

We've always named our cars. Right now I have a red Kia Spectra 5 that is the AluCar (a take on Alucard from the Hellsing anime since the car is the same red as Alucard's cloak). My husband's bright yellow Subaru Baja is Mango. the car I had just prior to this one was a red Mercury Moutaineer that was Clifford the Big Red SUV, or Cliffy.

When I was a teenager, my mom drove a '78 Chevy station wagon. It was Nadine, after a few incidents that reminded me of the book/movie Christine. It was Christine's cousin. Everyone in high school knew that car. Years after, I'd bump into someone from school and they'd asked about Nadine.

I've got a '99 Honda Accord that I call 'paid off'. :grin01:

Actually I call her good old girl. She's got 204,000 miles and I just can't seem to get rid of her to take on another car payment, so I guess I'll be keeping the 'good old girl' for a little while longer.

Actually I think Christine is what I'm leaning towards, after the book.

I was thinking Phillip---pronounced with some accent I dont know what the accent is--like Fil-eep.

But then I was like, the car seems more like a girl, and I couldn't think of any female names that fit it.
Christine might work though. I dunno. o_O

Naming things is great.

I think you should call yours "Senior" and your mom's "Junior." Or you could call your mom's "Dub," which sometimes so-and-so's II go by.

The only car I had that had a name that stuck was Rastus, a Chevy Van. My ex husband had some sort of fancy Buick- it just didn't seem to go with him, he was an electrician, he should have had a truck! We called it the Cruising Car. I remember driving out west with it, going to Arches national park, and we were out in the desert and driving fast when we went over a bump in the road, that set it airborne, and every time it touched down after it started bouncing along these little bumps it would make this yipping/yelping sound. It was so funny. I worked with a girl up in Minneapolis who had a beater car, it was white, maybe a Honda, and she called it The Prize.

I've got two cars An estate (station wagon) I call the shopping trolly, as I use it for shopping and taking the dogs out.
The other is a German sports saloon, the engine is remapped and chipped. I call that the liecence looser, I travel along a deserted freeway to work most days and if conditions are right I see how quick I can do it.
very silly but, hell I get to work full of adrenalin and ready for anything.
