Nature bites me again!!!!

E. g. guttata

Her name was Mary-9/17/05
As many of you may know, I have been waiting for my baby girl to lay her eggs for some time. I expected eggs about two months ago, and nature (or the male, whichever you prefer) decided to decieve me, so I had to place the male back with the female AGAIN! Now, two months later, nature has a nasty surprize for me. I go into my room after work today to check on my female, knowing that she should be laying any day now, and she is burried in her new substrate. LUCKILY this substrate is somewhat moist underneath, because this female has just laid 33 VIABLE eggs, NO slugs! Needless to say, I wasn't exactly looking for the eggs (they were hidden under her substrate and water bowl) and I missed them. So I went to pulll her out for excersize about 3 hours later, and she is REALLY pissy with me. I move the water bowl and lo and behold, I notice 4 of the eggs. I currently do not have pictures of the culprits, but it looks like I got there in time, and I will be candeling them, recounting them, and taking pics of them tomorrw to share with you all. These things are no bigger than my thumb from tip to the first knuckle! I currently have her in with a hopper right now, hoping that she'll eat. Se went from about 535g while holding eggs a week ago to almost 125g after just laying them. I'm going to make her nice and comfy for the next month or so, while I try to figure out what to do with all these little white orbs of joy!

You said it Guen and Zack!!! That's one ridiculous weight loss. Man, she must look just aweful after dropping so much weight. My girlie who went from 415 to 260 looked like a fragile little twig to me after her efforts, can't wait to see your photos!

Congrats, Alan! And holy cow @ 125g!!!! Hope she recovers quickly!

FORTUNATELY, she usually eats a normal-sized meal as soon as I offer one to her after laying. Since she never has problems holding food down, she usually recovers fairly quickly.

UNFORTUNATELY, she didn't eat until last night, 72 hours later than usualy, and (to be safe) I gave her a couple of hoppers instead of a ful-blown adult. I can tell, already, that she's not going to beef up/recover that quick this year.

BUT! she is drinking a lot of fluids and is in an isolated container to minimize stress. I think she'll be just fine!

33 eggs?!?! Holy rusted metal! :grin01: Congratulations! Maybe it was a good thing that nature was so deceptive. Good luck with them, and I hope she recovers well
