Need Help IDing babies

Lavred

New member
Hi! I was hoping to get some experienced people's opinions on my baby corns morphs/hets/hypos :) I know mostley what the parents are, tho I didn't get the morphs I was told could come from them or even what the corn calculator said I should get more of! lol It wasn't an intenional breeding tho, so its not a huge dissapointment. When I sell them tho I would like to give them the correct type and not mislead anyone! I do believe all but 1 are normals, but wanted confirmation on it, as well as any hypos that show etc; genetics of corns are so confusing! lol The Mother is a Bloodred that is Het Anery and PH stripe and the Father is a Lavendar that is Het Bloodred. The mother I got from triple-r-corns, so I'm sure her genetics are correct, and the lavendar male has nice diffusion along the sides to indicate being het bloodred as the breeder who sold him said he was. I'll post pics below of both parents and babies :) I greatly appreciate any and all help with IDing them!

The corn calc says 50/50 normals and diffused, but those are the odds for each individual egg. The one in the photo looks like a lovely normal het diffused with those nice split belly checkers!

BABY #3

I think listing them as diffused and het diffused would be the best bet. The other hets would be potential hets only and not really add to their value unless you were selling them to breeders willing to gamble on them as a project

Thanx :) Yes I figured the odds would be a bit more for the diffused coming out with the corn calc but only #2 really showed a stronger trait towards bloodred out of 6 of them. So #1 looks to be a normal with Het bloodred then?

You didn't mention any hets for hypo in your description of the parents, so it would be unlikely but not impossible! The normals come in such a wide range of shades. I would say split belly checkers are het diffused and the no checkers with the red bleeding in are diffused. Very pretty babies!

That's what I was figuring I'd have to do, but didn't want to false advertise just in case! Or just list them as normal and list parents and let a possible breeder take one if interested for a project. So the lavendar would have no real play in the hets or hypos then? I have 3 more babies to post, just having to manually resize all pics apparently so taking me a bit, sorry!

I missed the father's morph, too busy looking at the babies! They will all be diffused het lav or normals het diffused, het lav (no hypo in there at all)

Dad is lavender het bloodred, posted a pic of him too :) Sorry for the barage of pics! lol I was trying to make sure every important angle etc was captured for best viewing and determining of each one!

Thank you for all the help, I really appreciate it!!! I feel better having others who truly know what they are looking at giving me the proper types for them and then advertising them as such! For being mostly normals they are still gorgeous babies! I didn't realize they came in such strong colors as "normals" until I looked them up after they hatched! And #1 has managed to worm it's way into our hearts with its sweet temperment...and since our foster snake just left us for its home....we may have room for one...or two more...hehehe ;)

Yes, #2 has slight half ones near the top end of him, that's why I was unsure about him. I read tho that they are sometimes still diffused and the partial checkers on the sides like his diffuse after a couple sheds, whether this is a true theory or not I have no clue that's why I wanted to post them to make sure! So #2 is Definatley Not a diffused? should I post more belly pics of him for everyone to get a better idea?

Personally I'd say he's diffused, rather than het, but not of great quality. The amount of diffusion expressed is always variable, which is why you can see 'bloods' that either completely lose their pattern or keep some side pattern and saddles.

Ahh...makes sense, that's probably along the lines of where I read about the age diffusion of freckles or partial checks. I discovered bloodreds are quite variant and don't always even loose their saddles completley or are even a real red but some are more orange once grown! We lucked out with Sangria and bought her from a good breeder and she's proven at 3 yrs to be a beautiful red with barely a hint of saddles left :) I suppose my then 7 year old daughter did well in picking her!! lol How long would a diffused start showing its colors becoming more solid?

It really does vary so much, some colour up and diffuse well in the first few sheds, some take a year to look good, and some, quite honestly, never get that real diffusion. The original bloodreds were outcrossed for vigour, hence the variability in different lines. And just look at most diffused colour morphs, the diffusion is very poor in most of them, even though they are without a doubt homozygous for diffusion.
The pattern and the colour of bloodreds are separate issues, so some will have great colour saturation, some will have great diffusion, and some will get both. here's the progress from a baby of my favourite of my diffused, Polly

Oh wow!!!! She was beautiful and dark from the get go! Def a beauty to be proud of!! She looks much like our sangria; We bought her at 11 months so we missed the drastic changes from hatchling to yearling unfortunatley. The Diffused morphs are interesting....you really can't guarantee anything by them until they are grown! lol They must have stressed breeders out in the begining of the diffused discovering and genetic playing around of in other morphs till they worked with them long enough! haha
