need help persuading

i have got 1 corn at the moment but he eats 3 mice per feed or 2 small rats. i am soon going to be getting 2 more snakes so i have realised that i will be needing a lot of mice.

i was hoping to set up my own mouse colony as i have everything ready. i just need to think of some ways to persuade my mum to let me do this. i want to save all of my money to help my snake collection grow.

if anyone has any ideas i would be grateful.

thanks

I have 8 rosy boas and 16 cornsnakes. Some eat once a week, and others eat every 5 days. I spend about $20 a week on frozen mice for them. No mouse food to buy, no mouse cages to clean, no mouse bedding to buy, no guilt over killing mousies (yes,I'm wierd).

Feeding 3 snakes should cost peanuts!

I keep about 50 adults and will have about 50 hatchlings this year. I do keep a small colony of mice just for breeding season so I have some live reds and pinkies to feed to the ones who won't start on FT. But I must say , that raising that small colony of mice is much more work and expense than I would ever reccomend putting out for just a few snakes. Plus to feed adults, you have to raise the mice for quite a while after born before you can have them the size you want, and so its just not a worthwhile process in my opinion for this situation of 1-3 snakes.

i noticed most people said it would be costly. i understand this but i have already got everything i need apart from mice. i used to keep rodents as pets so i am pretty experienced in looking after them and having all the animals i have 1 more cage isn't really hard to clean. i like keeping mice as well which i know doesn't make sense to most people as they are going to be snake food. i know people say it should not cost much to feed my snake but i am only 14 and don't have much money due to the amount of other animals i keep (mainly due to 2 horses).

finally one last and the main reason was because it is very difficult to find frozen mice in the area i live in. i was hoping that i could help other people out as well because if i breed more mice than i need (not intending to do so) i could sell them to other people.

thanks for your help anyways.

p.s i think my mum is not too bothered by the idea anymore

last thing

one very important point i forgot to say

i am intending to breed my snakes this year so i will have more than 3 to feed and its almost impossible to get pinkies around here

I only have a few snakes and breed my own mice. I don't think its costly at all to raise feeders. The initial cost of tank and accessories is all the real cost you should have. I bought a huge bag of shavings for $5 that should last months and the food is very cheap too.

Speaking as a mom, any thing that saves money and makes caring for the pets easiers is good in my book.

thanks, i was hoping to speak to someone that had done it on a small scale and found it cost effective.
i already have the tank. all the real cost is going to be is to set up the gas chamber which i am hoping to do for less than $50. this may sound a lot but i would of spent that after about a month of feeding my snakes FT.

thanks everybody who posted

yay

at last all of it has payed off. i am starting my mouse colony tomorrow!!!

thanks for your help every1
