I've decided to get some more corns, as everyone on this site knows they are quite addictive. I've also decided to house in 27qt sterilite containers, I used my soldering iron and made air holes and got everything ready. I have one problem though, it doesn't seem like the lid is secure enough to keep a hatchling or a yearling even from escaping. So I thought to myself that I have some C clamps and I tried some very small C clamps well they work but it would take 6 of them to hold it down well and thats a real pain in the butt :crazy02: . Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone know of any easier solutions? Any advise would be greatly appriciated.
 
There are a few threads already on this but I would say put something heavy on it like books or a nice big rock. If you want good looks I would say build a rack to fit the tubs, and problem solved. Good luck!

I have two very important words...bungee cords.

These are invaluable to keeping lids closed. Some Sterilite and other brands have pretty decent fitting lids, but I use bungees to keep them completely closed. They hook well and come in whatever size you need. One on the little tubs, two on the big ones.

Build your shelves to hold the sterilite so you don't need to use the lids . . .

I use binder clips. Three each side. I'd love to have a rack like yours D, but I don't have the room.
 
As far as plastic storage containers go, Sterilites in my honest opinion have the worst fitting lids ever imaginable. The old Sterilites are the best, the newer ones are so flimsy its rediculous. I'm working on my 4th escape right now with warm Sterilites. :angry01:

And to make matters worse, I've found than when coupled with a warm snake room, the heavier the lid weight is, the more side buckling you get and bigger gaps for escape. Due to my intense hatred for binder clips (yes, I know I'm weird) I've not yet used them, but have heard they work good albeit look extremely tacky.

One of these days, I'm gonna have me a decent looking and functional rack system for the snakes I keep in tub-style containers (hatchlings - yearlings).

Now if only I could find me a handy man who has a truck, his own toolbox, and the know how... :rolleyes:

I have to agree that the sterilite lids don't fit very well. I am using binder clips, but they are a pain and don't look great at all. That's part of the reason I hid my rack in the back of the house . . . LOL But I'd have to say that I haven't had an escape from the tubs yet, so they are doing their job.
 
Thanks everyone for the advice. I'm going to try a few different things and I'll let everyone know how they went.

Binder clips truly do work well.
I use two per side.
It can be a pain to remove the four clips when opening the container but I have never had an escape from a sterilite with binder clips.
Now, without clips...that is a different story
