hi, ive got a 4 foot corn snake and it lives in a vivarium 2ft2 Height, 2ft2 Width and 1ft 8 debth. it has glass sliding doors on the front with a basking bulb in the top left and a heat mat on the floor. the temp is 27-30, also it has a big branch and a big hide, and a water bowl which it can curl into (it never does though). but for some reason it is always trying to get out nearly always pushing its head on the glass so hard that its whole body shakes, it digs in the corners to find a way out, but obviously it cant get out... why is it doing this? i feed it every 4-6 days. also i can start to see dark lines on the front of its noes between the scales, i dont think they were there before... if you wish to see a photo of its vivarium i will post one, aswell as wondering why it is always trying to get out i was wandering why it doesnt eat the mice i give it... they are the right size because i would go to town the next day when ever it didnt eat one and buy it another and it would eat it. (my mum doesnt let me keep frozen mice at home)

Sorry about the essay.

Matt

Hey and Welcome to the forum

You corn snake should really have a 3ft vivarium. Most Corn try to escape anda lot of corn are active an do these kind of things, so try not to worrie about it. Try feeding the snake 1 large/monster mouse every 7 days. What Morph is the corn by the way???
Can you please post a pic of the vivarium and the snakes nose so we can see these lines???

Cheers

Alex

i still think amel

Im only new but I still think amel. What color are they eyes? Red or black? Is his back ground color orangish white, greyish or something diffrent? Does it have any black on it?
Jaimee

its eyes are brown, its back is not orange atall, it is all brown/grey like on the photo, and it has black outlines around every dark brown patch.

Im wrong!

Its not a amel. It sounds like a miami. :D Boy I need to cheak the color settings on my computer. I see no black or grey. sorry for the mix up ;)

Nice viv. Looks like you could fit a wide shelf (or maybe even two as long as they don't allow him to get too near the bulb) to give him some more floor area.

Try using lightweight fittings on shelves, so that if they're accidentally knocked off they won't do any harm. My guys like the pre-formed cardboard hanging basket liners as hides (cheap enough to be disposable) and plastic foliage, which gives ground cover for further hide space, is washable and looks good as well.

wow, good idea lol, i never thought of that :p ill put a triangular shelf on the right side there is plenty of room because the branch dont go on that side, and also he usually does a full streatch right up the back side of the tank (its prety impressive) and he usualy just about touches the wire cage thats around the bulb. he isnt burnt though i think the wire cage does a good job (Y) btw the whole viv and wire cage for the bulb was made by me :D woo im proud of it to say its the first one ive ever made, had it all built so it would fit nicely between the wardrobes ontop of my chest of draws :p the hardest part was fitting the damn bulb in lol, accidentally drilled a wire hole too close to the wall :( lol.

hi again, just 2 more questions.

1. my snake isnt eating his food much, it is just rearly picky? or what?

2.my snake rattles its tail sometimes why is this?

ok one more question :)

3.i was with my snake in the lounge on the floor and my mum nearly stood on it! so before she could i grabbed my snake and its whole body shoot cos i shocked it :( (i put it streight back in its viv to settle down) but about 1 seccond after picking it up i had this rearly smelly smell on my hands and arm from the snake which only came after i picked it up... i tried alsorts of soap to get rid of the smell but it just wont go away lol... wtf is this smell about?

ok

Ok, first, he may not be eating for a variety of reasons, not hungry, too cool, getting ready to shed or stress. If it's only been a couple of weeks, I wouldn't worry about it.

Rattleing the tail is to scare you off. He thinks your a predator. This may also be a source of stress.

Third, He msuked you. Nothing to be concerned with. My corns have never musked, but my milks do all the time. This is another way he tries to scare off a predator. Sounds like your snake is a bit stressed out right now. Leave him alone for a few days and let him calm down.
