Need to seal grout?

I'm getting another corn next week, and don't have hides for him, so I'm going to make some. I planning on using styrofoam and the foam in a can stuff to make the shape, then grout it, and maybe paint it. If I don't use paint, do I need to seal the grout with anything to block bacteria, or no? If I do use paint, is spray paint safe to use as long as I air it out for a couple of days? Thanks!

I'm also planning on making a water bowl. What kind of waterproof sealers are safe to use?

Mod podge. It's non toxic. Be careful using the foam in a can. It expands and contracts with slight temp changes and will crack the grout. I use pottery plaster from hobby lobby, acrylic paint and mod podge to seal it

Oh ok. I don't think I have a hobby lobby around here, but there is a Michael's, and other craft stores. Is mod podge water proof?
