I'm pretty sure I know how my corns' enclosure will look....I have a 20 gallon Long aquarium, with a full hood light ect. (It has a flourescent light.....should I replace it with some other type of light? ) I'll probably use aspen and repti-bark as bedding, and have a UTH under one side of the tank (The warm side) I'll have climbing branches over there too of course, and the other side (The cool side) I'll have a water pond (which I already have) that he/she can skinny dip in :grin01: along with a hiding area....and I'll probably put a hiding area on the warm side too.....This corn will probably be one of the most spoiled corns EVER!!

OK, one last question. Do petstores sell frozen pinkies? I mean like, Petco or Petsmart....I haven't looked myself yet, and I was wondering if any of you have ever seen them there. My parents most likely wont let me order snake food off the internet, so I need to find a place to buy it, and I will most likely be starting off with a baby corn of course  because I want to have it for a long time, and mainly, I can't find a place that sells older ones....plus as i said, I'm not aloud to order them off the internet.... . I know they have regular frozen feeders at petco, but I'm not sure about pinkies....so....where do you all get yours? I'm not going to breed them and kill off the pinkies as food.... :sidestep:

Make sure the snake doesn't coil around your hood light. It could burn the snake.

You have quite a stash for your new corn. It does sound like the most spoiled corn ever.

Petco/Petsmart frozen mice are way over priced. WAY over priced. $10 for 6 anything. I guess when you get into the older mice, it's a little better then getting the 6 pinkies for the same price.

Good luck. You'll find some great answers and people here on the forum.

Coil around the hoodlight? Theres a strip of glass between the light and the enclosure.....confused o.0

And yea, he'll be one spoiled little corn.....I just hope I can find an older snake, cuz i dont want to have to feed it pinkies!! :puke01: I'd rather just start with an older snake.....but whatever i get is what i get.....and that lucky corn will be SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO spoiled!! :crazy02:

I CAN'T WAIT!!

ok, LAST QUESTION, you all keep talking about colors, like Anerys, and ghosts, snows and amels.....can anyone tell me what these mean? I'm sure it has to do with the patterns on their skin......but Im not sure.....I feel like such a rookie  its probably cuz i AM!! hehehe :crazy02:

thanx!

As for the cons, Aspen is a little dusty, Sani-Chips do not hold burrows, and Repti-Bark may have mites and is expensive.

Personally, I use Sani-Chips for my corn as it is very easy to clean and looks nice. Hope this helps.
I love aspen and CMatt2157 is right that SOME brands are dusty. If you use aspen, Kaytee brand is not. It's available at Target and Petsmart.

Welcome to the addiction!:wavey:

I'm worried about that hood you keep talking about.... i hope it's not the kind you use for fish... snakes are very sneaky at getting out of there Viv's... make sure you have a tight fitting screen top or better yet a wire top that they can not get out of ...i don't wanna see posts from you asking how to find an escaped snake and I'm sure you don't want that either... snakes don't really need a light..but if you want one i suggest the round ones that you find in the reptile section of stores, mine has glow in the dark stuff that looks like moon light when you turn the light out...as for the names of snakes you can find web sites of breeders that show all the color morphs do a google search on corn snake morphs ...also i recommend the book by Kathy love called "the corn snake manual" it has everything ...get it and read it before you get your snake, with that and this web site you will be a great snake keeper...and one day maybe a breeder

good luck

Ok.....My hoodlight is a tight fitting light......But i'll check and make sure its secured down before adopting my first corn.....and if I feel its not safe, I'll just do the screen top with weights. If I have a UTH do I need a light? I mean a heat light....?

Thanks for telling me about that book......where can i get it? I went to borders today and couldnt find it, so Im a bit lost. Like i said earlier my parents dont allow me to order things off the internet.....lame I know, but hey, its life i guess. Does anyone know where to get it from?

As for being a great snake owner....i really hope that with all your advice(everyone) that i will become a great snake mom! And in a few years....i will be a breeder! I can see it now!!

CRAZY LITTLEVIPER BREEDING CORNS!! :crazy02: :crazy02: :crazy02:

As long as your hoodlight lightbulbs are not exposed to the snake, you should be fine with that. Although they are unnecessary if you have an UTH which is recommended for digestion.

Kathy Love's book is available on the internet. I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think it's in stores to buy. Maybe you could convince your parents to let you buy it or have them buy it, it's pretty much the corn snake bible. Kathy Love seems like a very safe person to buy something from off the internet.

Welcom Welcom little man. Yep Corns are pretty fun. I use Aspen as well. If your on a budget, its not too hard on it. Its pretty good in price and it works well. My snakes love to hide underneath it. You'll become more and more addicted as time goes on =)
