I am new at snakes. I've always wanted one but never was able to. I want a corn snake and I want to get a baby, but is this a good idea. I work with animals everyday, so I am responsible, I justdont want to kill it. Thanks

Corns have to be the easiest of reptiles to keep, their requirements are minimal. Any good book should tell you all you need to know, and if it doesnt, do what I do. Post a question on the forum.

What I would suggest you do first is get a copy of Kathy Love's Corn Snake Manual and read through it. That will bring you up to speed on what you need to know to keep a corn snake. The book is well written and very informative.

If you have a specific question(s), ask away and any and all will answer you.

I'd also browse a few websites of the major corn breeders. They have care sheets that give you the brief nuts and bolts of corn keeping, but it's no substitute for reading the book.

Browse this forum, especially the husbandry section. Many of your questions will have been asked and answered throughout this site.

Heating, housing, feeding, shedding...all of these are covered, so read away. :)

I think getting a baby corn snake is fine, but know the do's and don't before you bring it home. I think Kathy has a particularly good handout for new corn owners:

Here's a link to the book (or you can often find it at reptile shows or some pet stores):

Good luck, corns make wonderful pets and I know you'll enjoy them as much as we all do. Post away with questions and we'll do our best to help out.

But look out! They are habit forming......I'm already on number 2 and wondering where I would stuff more vivs if I could.....

The Corn snake manual by Bill and Kathy Love is excellent. I've found that it's way better to not just go by the manual and the manual alone. Other corn snake books are very helpful too, thought the manual is probably the best. Be sure to look some up on amazon.com or something.

Good luck!
