Wanna pet my Snake?
Here is a new male Brazilian Rainbow Boa, that I picked up today at the reptile show. He's a 2009, and hopefull will make some great looking babies with my female.

Enjoy.

Nice find! I was disappointed with the show last month so I figured I would wait a couple of months before going back.

Very nice! I've always loved the looks of rainbows. They look like someone told a 6 year old to design a snake pattern, and they did a bang-up job!

Just curious, as I don't know much about them, in general how is their disposition?

Thanks everyone!

Well, this guys awesome. The time I handled him there and when I moved him into his tub tonight he was great. Acted just like a cornsnake, just stronger. The female I have, Prism (if you want to look at pictures) was great when I first got her, to be honest I don't handle her as much as I should so she strikes at fast movements. But, if you keep up on their handling. Maybe like once a week. I'm sure they all would be great snakes. I think people get afraid of them because, well they aren't tiny and have decent sized teeth. So they get a bad rep for being grumpy. But if the keeper would handle them like I said, they are great!

Their husbandry though, is not for a beginner keeper. Humidity has to be high all the time, since they are from rainforests.

When my sons get bigger I'd like to get a boa, after a king snake stepping stone. We have an adult ball python as well as corns, but these snakes are sweeter then bunnies.

I've got mine from locals, fauna, and members here (thanks, Gini!). There is a place called Rainbows R Us that has some beauties, but I know nothing about them as a business.

And congratulations!

I love my BRB and he looks a lot like yours. Lots of orange in him. Mine is quite mellow and very friendly.

These snakes are so beautiful. I really do want one, but I am scared away by the humidity requirements.

It's pretty easy to keep the humidity up in something like a Vision cage. That's what I keep mine in, and I don't need to mist at all to keep the humidity at 80+ percent. Just the water bowl and the right temperature gradient, and they do fine.

I mist each night and that's it. With the proper cage, it's not that hard. I don't even have to mist everyday. They do just fine.
