New Breeding pair

So I went to the reptile expo in Kitchener Ontario today and bought myself a breeding pair of "Albino Corn snakes". So far I don't really know for sure that both of them are actually albino, but I figured you guys could help me with that.

This is the female, I'm pretty sure she is just a regular albino:

Now this is the male, and he just looks totally different to me.

He Also has this interesting zigzag pattern on half of his body

I also found out that I should go buy some black paper to take better pictures :p

They are both amels, and the male has a very nice patch of zigzag pattern going on there.

ok, so I am reading a few things about this, but I'm still not to sure.
Does this zigzag mean I can call it a zigzag or aztec?
Also, it seems there are different varieties of amel (Red Albino, Candycane, Fluorescent Orange, Reverse Okeetee, and Sunglow) Which one am I looking at, because the male kinda looks more candycane than red albino.
Also is albino always amel or anery? I thought it was something completely separate before

Sorry I can't be of any help... I went to that expo today as well, and saw these two before you scooped them up. Nice pick up! They are goorrrgeous :)

They are both 'just' amels. The male is fairly pale, but he is definitely not a candycane.

Albino only truly works with mammals. Alb means 'white'. Mammals only make a single pigment: black. Remove the black and you end up with a white animal.

Our corn snakes, on the other hand, make 3 pigments: red, black, and yellow. Remove black and you are left with the red and yellow pigment rather than a white snake. That is an amel, which is short for amelanism (a- 'lacking', melanin- 'black', ism 'the condition of'). Remove the red and you are left with black and yellow pigment. That is an anery, which is short for anerythrism (an- 'lacking', erythrin- 'red'). Remove the red and black, and you are left with a white animal that can still make yellow pigment. Those are the animals in the snow-complex.

Both are very interesting looking. Good pick ups for 50$ each..
I was going to go to the expo, but none of the registered vendors emailed me back on what corn snake selections they'd have, so I figured I'd save the 3hr drive each way and just not go.

Great pick ups. You get bored of them, sell them to me :)
