New Cage!...New Snake?

DeprivedSnakeLover

Lover Of The Bloods!
Well when I went to a garage sale I found a cage that was 3'X2'X18". Its made out of birch ply-wood, and a Plexiglas front and a pegboard back. I got it for very cheep. I wanted to keep a snake of some type in it. This would be my first snake. Hopefully something that doesn't get to big. I just cant decide! any suggestions?
Thanks,
Mike

corn snake? best first snake in my opinion. very hardy, tons of morphs, and quite docile. by hardy i mean temp/humidity dont gotta be spot on like some species.

whatever you decide, remember one thing. research to the max before buying it. it saves you a lot of hassle in the long run. and the snake too.

A corn was going to be my first choice but the cage i got is HUGE. it about 67 gallons.

if you want to take the plunge and are willing to work with them. get into a bigger colubrid then. or smaller pythons. but you have to be spot on with some animals and spend the money and do it right the first time.

best bet is it just surf the web looking at breeders pictures. find a snake that just stands out. then read about them. go to a show if you can. or get some interaction with that species. then either buy one at a show or order to get delivered from a breeder.

Don't forget to scrub and re-scrub the enclosure, inside and out, and make sure the wood is sealed (even re-seal it). As far as what snake to get, that would be awesome for an adult corn. You could also get some sort of dwarf boa (Nicaraguan and Hogg Isle BCI locales are the most common/recommended) male, but it's no guarantee that it'll stay small enough for the enclosure for its entire life. There's plenty of options, but it's up to you to research further. =)

Make sure it's escape-proof! You don't have to buy a baby. Buy an adult corn! Plenty of those around. They live 20+ years, so a two or three year old snake still has many years left! And you skip the fragile baby stage.
