Well it finally got him ! i bought my snake today. Got him all housed in. I picked the albino okeetee i couldnt decide but it came down to that one. I hope i can stop my "reptile rush" for sometime we will see. :p

Tell me about it! I don't even have a corn yet and I can already see where I am headed. Frankly, I would be there already if it weren't for my husband and his level-head.

congradulations! it can seem like an addiction at times, One of our local pet stores is going out of buisiness, and they've got all the little snakeys priced down.. Oh man. . Its not safe for me to even go into the building alone, or I'd come home with 6 new corns... 1 jungle carpet python... and possibly the little banana king... .... .. . .and one blue tounged skink... he's just so cool looking.

this is off topic, but Cornsnakekid92 what kind of snake is that in you avatar picture? Its really pretty. :crazy02:

It looks like a Brazilian Rainbow Boa, but it's hard to tell because of the size of the picture. If it is one, pictures do not do them justice. They have an iridescent coloring (looks like how oil shows rainbows in puddles of water). I have been looking to get one for some time, but lately i have heard that many have bad temperaments.

Thanks for answering. They are amazing! I saw it and fell in love. lol. Im gonna have to go look up pictures on google of Brazilian Rainbow Boa's.

They are beautiful.

It IS my Brazilian rainbow boa. It has bittin me once and it didn't feel very good but it wasn't bad , it is about 2.5 feet. they grow to 5*-7 feet and get about 2.5 inches around so they dint get huge. they do need a very high humidity 70-91% and they are pretty much immune to blister disease.

ooh, and here is a larger picture and picture do not do them justice. light on them is good but the best is naturealy sunlight.

Wow

That is a beautifull snake! I spotted one of those a couple weeks ago and have been thinking about them since. Other than the humidity requirements is the husbandry very tricky?

Those rainbow boa's are amazing.

Syphen-
I dont know if there is a way to stop the reptile rush lol. Our rule in our house is that the big boys (over 6 feeters) aren't allowed because of space lol.

A nice little sand boa is coming for christmas! :D

Corns are amazing, post pictures when the little guy is all settled :D

Money? Whats money? Ohhh wait.. I had that! Then I got 3 snakes =P $225 for first one, $100 for second, $65 for 3rd (and a hold fee (Thanks Caroline =D)).... $250 for the first ones first viv, $400 for first ones second viv, $300 for second ones viv, $300 for third ones viv... and will be around $15 a week to feed them.. not to mention its $20 in gas to go buy the food and $5 for parking... and $70 for aspen every 6 months LOL

Then we get the racks LOL... rack to hold the 3 vivs is at $250 so far... and its just wood right now LOL... stuff for my hatchling rack is at $300... its still just parts too... and how much is an incubator? $200? Hrm... maybe this is a BAD habit for an unemployed student? *giggles*

BTW thats around... $2530 plus.... $780 in food plus.... $1300 gas and parking.... total of $4610 after approximately ONE YEAR! *faints*

And you know what? I NEED more!!!!! *eyes bulge out of head* More!!! MORE!!! *giggles*

Reading the above post all i can say is ... Uh oh? lol. The guy is settled down nice ill take a picture and post it if i can find my camera... Yes iv gotten him already and it only been a couple of days... i already feel like running off to the pet store to get more. Too bad i dont have the room in my small basement suite :(. Ohh and money of course is always an issue. Sadly. Then again in the long run maybe its best.

I really wish you hadn't posted that, it made me count.
I guess I haven't done so bad. In five months I have spent approx $950 on snakes, $180 on tubs and accessories(too many snakes for glass vivs), and about $550 on food. That is less than $1700, which will put me about even with you at the end of a year.
Oh, yeah forgot about the racks left to build, next years hatchlings already on order...I'll never have money again, hehe :crazy02:
This is truly an addiction-not just a hobby.

Gintha, it doesn't need to cost so much. 3 snakes shouldn't cost you more than $5 a week to feed MAX. If you buy frozen in bulk, it should cost even less and you save on the petrol and parking at the same time. Set up costs are by far the biggest but then corns are pretty cheap to keep. If you have a little cash aside for emergencies and all that then you could get away with spending a lot les.

...or spending the same...but on more snakes  !!

I have to agree with Princess. My food bill is only as high as it is because I just got my first bulk order(was buying from local pet shop) and I am feeding 32 snakes now. I have figured out that by buying in bulk mail order, it will cut my feeder cost by almost 70%. That is a lot of money to put into other things (snakes :) )

ya i did some calculations and corns are much cheaper to feed each week apposed to my leopard gecko which is costing me a suprising amount. Guess i wont be getting a bearded dragon... ever. I forsee some more corns in the future thou. A Okeetee since i was soo torn... hard decisions arent they?

I know... problem with buying frozen bulk is... I can't. I've tried twice, and both times 1/2 the mice were defrosted by the time I got them.. plus its a HUGE upfront cost ($225 for 6 month supply, with shipping). Need to find a supplier closer than the other side of the country ~,~ Gunna be in Montreal in the spring, and gunna get a HUGE order from Canadian Mouseman shipped to my bro's house.. and keep them on dry ice for the 17 hour drive home... just hope they last! Sucks living in a place where you can't easily get bulk f/t mice... and there are no herp vets... and aspen is a special order... *grumble*
