My son just got a cornsnake for his birthday. My mom took him shopping today and he bought a fake ceramic tree, which is hollow on the inside. The snake found his way up inside and has not come out. My son is ten and is afraid that he will die in there. Im not sure what to do to get the corn to come out. My son seems to be a natural with the snake. I think I might like my own too.:confused:
 
He should be okay! Just lay the tree down on it's side in his cage.
He will make his way out, he's more than likely just chilling out. Trying to pull him out may hurt him, if he got in he'll get out. If you don't see him and are wanting to try something, you might wiggle some food at the opening to tease him out. Just make sure that you keep moving away till he's out in slow movements.

As Colleen said, he should be ok, if you have just got the snake it is best to leave it alone for a few day's so it can settle into it's new enviroment. Cornsnake's are nocturnal animals, so maybe it is coming out later in the night. When it get's used to thing's you may find it come's out in the daytime as well, both mine do. Just give it time, your son got a brilliant present in a cornsnake and you know you are just going to have to treat yourself to one or two or more. Very addictive.:D :D :D
 
It may not be clear to a new snake owner that the biggest reason for not feeding in the living quarters tank is to avoid aspen chips or other substrate particles from being accidentally ingested along with food. These chips or particles can lead to gut impaction [or irritation at the very least], which is a dangerous condition [see my post about this nearby under "Impacted?"]. Corns will drag their food around sometimes, so having any chips where they are fed can lead to them getting stuck to feeder mice.

For feeding, I use a breadbox sized Rubbermaid container with holes drilled in the top for air. I put the mice in a small plastic cup laying sideways on top of plain white [no chemicals or dyes] paper towel over the floor of this container.

We feed the corn in a seprate container. It worked nice.
Thanks for all the help. Im waiting for the manual to get here.:)
