And new to corn snakes too! I've loved snakes for a good decade now, but was always really partial to ball pythons. This past June my fiance and I went to a reptile show and he let me pick out my birthday present there. I took myself by surprise when I fell in love with a little bloodred corn snake--I always thought corns were too wiggly! lol She's got such a great personality and is always a voracious eater, she's really become quite a joy to have around--or maybe it's just my pregnancy hormones causing me to be enamored with her. Either way it is, we're going to be getting more corns soon and I've come to a realization that I'm becoming quite obsessed with them and all the awesome morphs.

Since I've spent a few days reading over the forum learning things, I figured I might as well join and become a semi-active/semi-participating member. Duh, why didn't I do this sooner?

Welcome. I have loved snakes since childhood but recently took the plunge into ownership. This is a great forum, I have already learned a lot & hope to learn a lot more. Interestingly, I was partial to corn snakes but I am starting to really want a BP after reading about them here from postings in the non-corn area. Maybe I will get one in 2010. :)

I think hatchling corns have the ~cute~ thing going. My little hateling is adorable despite her rattlesnake impressions & frequent bites.

Anyway, there are some super-knowledgeable people here & I think you'll enjoy the community.

Hi Happy and Welcome!! Be sure and post pics of your wee one(s)!!

Hatchling corns definitely have the cute thing going on--they do the puppydog eyes better than any puppy I've ever met. I was absolutely terrified to handle my corn at first because she's got so much spunk and goes after her food so quickly I was sure she'd bite just out of the whole "Ooh, is it food mom? Is it? Is it?!" attitude she has. I was worried I'd be surprised from the bite, pull away quickly, and accidentally hurt her. lol

I will post pics as soon as I can get her to sit still. Back when I thought she was a male I named her Apep, when I found out she was a girl, the nickname Peppy stuck--she's a very active little snake. I'm hoping someone can help me identify exactly what she is from pics--she has the deep red tones of a blood red but doesn't look like the pictures of any I've ever seen.

Thanks. Wow, I'm amazed at how many other gals I'm seeing on here, ten years ago it was rare to find a woman at a reptile show--this makes me quite happy. :)

Welcome to the forum!
.... do we tell you now or later that they're addictive little things?

You don't have to tell me they're addictive, I already know--I've got a few hatchlings on their way to me next week. lol

Of course, I've always been this way with reptiles. My time at college didn't allow me to keep them though...now that I've got my own house and a wonderful man who loves snakes as much as I do... Our three bedroom house is now two bedrooms with a snake room. It turns out that we've both always had this dream of becoming herp breeders, at least as a side thing. :D
