new hide plans

alrite,i am thinking about making a new hide for my corn,is gonna be sorta like a cave on with a slab on top for chillin, but am building it on a pine frame(for stability and ease)but are corns ok with pine?

No, corns are not ok with pine. I wouldn't use any wood for a hide. Untreated, it will be a nightmare to clean the inevitable crap off it. Treated, it could be toxic to your snake. Please remember that this hide if for your snake and not for you. They like a snug, low hide, only slightly larger than their own body volume.

Here are the plans to my homemade hides:

1. Bend rectangular piece of cardboard lengthwise.

Simple, eh? :)

thought it might have been pine.the wood was only to be a frame, see was gonna stick slate slabs on top.but will have to find something else for a frame.lol i no i no its jus i laybour as a builder.i like a challange

Wow..that Dean sure is one smart guy!

I agree , I have some high fashion hides made out of bending cardboard too and the animals love them and I love the price of them. Not to mention the ability to throw out and make new ones so easily!

o waits i get you!well actually...i do...but i dont.help!lol
:roflmao: I guess my "plans" weren't detailed enough. They DO make cardboard rolls of many sizes, but I'm just talking about regular old box cardboard. A five foot snake doesn't take up as much space as you'd think when it's curled up. A folded 16" x 8" piece of carboard (from a box flap, etc.) would do the trick. Or you could go crazy and make it longer. But you want it snug. :)

ahh rites.i see what you mean.oh yea, snug is a gd idea.puts the snake at ease.ye was just confused because all i have ever done is buy hides from reptile shops for my snake(s)

My 42" corn fits in a hide that is 8x3, and her other favorite is 6x4. Here she is in the 8x3.

Someone just had a thread on how to make your own hides out of clay stuff- they were really cool.

I make hides out of polystyrene and tile grout.

just carve the polystyrene to whatever shape you want, cover it with the color of tile grout you want, then spray it with some tile grout sealent. and there ya go. it gives it a realistic rock kinda look. and you can make it whatever shape, size you want

Heres a cool link

Well, I'm not sure how long Kieran's log is, but his viv is 30 inches long and I had to take a couple of inches off (now in Gailleann's viv), so I'm guessing about 26 or 27". He doesn't fit.

But, I guess he thinks he does as he's in there alot :)

I like using ceramic pitchers, bowls, ash trays, and the like from discount stores and garden centers. They're cheap attractive, and easy to keep clean.

What launage is that.?

for my hides, when we run out of tissue i take the box and cut off the top half and cut a little doorway in each small side. ---- the end!
