Any Advice and help would be greatly appreciated

Those hides look fine. I have fake vines from Wal-mart in mine, so I can' advise you about plants.

i use the same hides for my corns :) they work really well..

i wouldnt suggest putting the enclosed one over the heat pad tho.. in my expereince it traps the heat and causes an "oven" effect.. when i first tested temps the inside of the cave got to 119F :|

Im getting my first snake soon so im using simple stuff, im gonna use toilet paper rolls or cut the tops off of 2 litre bottles, so that it kind of makes a hut type of thing, is there anything i need to do to the bottles, other than wash them? thx

the plastic could possibly be sharp.. mabey use a less sticky tape and go around the edge?

Thanks for the advice all.

Think i will get some fake plants then for my Miami Cornsnakes home and thanks for the advice on the cave did you still use yours and just put it at the cold end.

Thats a good idea, ive got lots of stuff running through my head cause im getting the snake soon, lol, thanks alot for the suggestion, my snake surely will be happy :)

I have that first snake hide for my King and he LOVES it, I filled it with the moss it comes with and he spends the majority of the day in there.

i just have mine filled with aspen.. and when they go into shed i fill each one with the moss..

also it is on the cool side now..

I have a hide just like the 2nd pic for my BP, I love it (Echo does too). As far as plants go I picked up some vine types from the dollar store and use them in all my vivs. They are easy to "fluff" rearrange and clean. Only a buck, can't go wrong! You will pay a lot more for fake plants at craft stores such as Micheals and they aren't any different from what I have seen. I also use interesting pieces of pottery with holes cut in them (rough edges sanded smooth), rubbermaid containers etc for hides. I also picked up at the dollar store some tortilla warmer containers that I cut a hole in the lid and use for moist hides they work awesome.

I was wondering, its probably best for the hide not to let any light or barely any, right? Cause im using the tops of the 2 litre bottles and theyre transparent, so should i wrap something around it, or paint it, etc. And are there types of paints that arent good for snakes? thanks

You wouldn't want to use those, unless they are completely opaque, because it doesn't really count as a hide if the snake's not hidden, right?

Be really careful with the first hide. It may be less of an issue with a corn (as long as the hole is big enough for an adult to go through) since they are not a real thick bodied snake, but keep an eye on it just in case.

If you ever do want use real plants pothos and wandering jew are both very hardy vines, not toxic and supposedly edible. We have those two kinds in my RTB's viv and she's always squishing them, but they are very resiliant and look great all the time. The bonus here in the desert is that they keep her humidity up too. Plastic plants work fine too! If you do get real plants just make sure to rinse the leaves off really thoroughly in case they were ever sprayed with pesticides, or get cuttings from a friend who doesn't use chemicals.
