new keeper needs advice

maplins do a digital in/out thermometer/hygrometer with probe for under £20. You might be surprised just how hot the surface of the heatmat really is
 
i have my probs just above the substance at both ends of the tank
is this right or should it be on the heat mat ?
 
On the heat matt, under the substrate, measuring the hottest temperature your snake could possibly reach ;)
 
:confused: with the probe on the heat mat i show a temp of 91 and when the other heater is on it goes to over 100:angry01: i have now put the the prob from the termometer and also the one from the thermostat under the substance on the heater mat , i am going to take out the other heater so i will have a constant temp at one end now of 84, the prob at the other end is still just above the substraght is that right or should it also be under it ?:confused:
