HI,kids, nice forum.Haven't seen it all yet,but what I've seen so far looks great.Glad to join you all.
A little background. It's my girlfriend and I,her name is Kathy,I'm Tracy.
By the way,I am male.(she's not!)
We live in SW Fla,both natives.
I am a fish fan,have 4 tanks,all African cichlids,all mbunas,for any other
fish fanatics out there.
She volunteers at the local county nature center, asked last Aug if she could bring a baby snake home.Had to think about that one, never been a fan,but finally gave in,got a 20 gal long aquarium and screen top,a year later we have 7!The first was a red, then a yellow, then 2 greys, and today 2 albinos.
Oh,well,stuff happens.
I'm a complete noob, just now taking a big interest in them, and she's no expert either, but all are well and growing like crazy.
Ok,enough intro,a couple of quick questions,if I may,then it's bedtime for
bonzo.
We fishkeepers build backgrounds for fish tanks, usually from styrofoam, carved and coated with concrete.
I'm building one now,getting a 180 gal tank in March,from glasscages.com,
I'm sure you all have used their stuff.
I figured I'd get Kathy a bigger terrarium while I'm at it,so will order her a
72" 135 gal at the same time.Waiting till march,'cause glasscages is going to
a reptile show in Tampa then, and shipping for 2 tanks that size, stands and canopies would be huge dineros, they'll carry all the stuff down for $100,
we'll drive up to Tampa and pick it all up.About a 120 mi drive, mucho savings on freight, not that I'm cheap(ok,I am) but the tanks and accessories are setting us back about $2500 smackers,so need to save where I can.
Anyway, would like to build a background for snakes tank, but paint it instead of concrete it, the only paint we've found safe for fish is Krylon Fusion.
Has anyone been where I'm going,do you all know if this is safe for use in a
terrarium,or have any better suggestions of what I might use?
Second question for the mod.
Can you tell me how to change my forum name, roboform filled it for me,didn't notice that I am my e-mail address, can't see where to change it :shrugs: ?
That's it,will be back, looking forward to meeting everybody, and learning lots about our new hobby.Am sure we will you all have a great forum.
Thanks.
Tracy,Kathy.

Hello and Welcome to the Forums!!!
So how big are your 7 cages for the snakes? Im not too sure about the backgrouind but I dont think it would hurth them. Are you keeping all 7 seperate? As for changing your name, you might wanna check with RichZ on that one.

Thanks Dave123.
By the way, I read my first post, and apparently can't add or count.
Have 3 greys,not 2.There,that makes 7.
Getting old ,I guess.
I don't know enough about them to tell you particular varieties yet,
as I said,am new at this. But,we'll learn as we go.
All are in the 20 gal long,2 are about 2 ft long, the rest are probably
8".
All getting along fine, but thought we'd better get something bigger soon.
Thus the 135 I told you all about.
Want to hear some more about backgrounds and paint, anyone else?
Hopefully RichZ will read my post, not a big deal, just aggravation.

You should really look into getting seven separate tanks for the snakes. First of all, a 20L is WAY too small for seven snakes, and secondly, cohabitation is a big no-no. Do a search for it and read some of the previous threads on the topic.

As I said, learn as you go.
Thanks for that heads up,I just read an article by a lady named
Kathy Love, who evidently does have a clue, unlike me!
I will seperate them tonight, and rethink the idea of getting one large cage,
apparently will be going with several smaller ones.
Just glad to learn that lesson the easy way, thanks.
Have had no problems so far thank goodness, but will fix my faux pas
immediately.
This is a big part of why I got involved,I'm the one who reads the
instructions before starting a "some assembly required" project.
This thread seems to getting away from the intro format,if the mod would
like it moved, go ahead.
Again thanks, don't give up on us,we'll get there.

Yes thats right learn as you go. Yes you should seperate them as Shade said. A 20 gallon long viv is a good size for an adult cornsnake.
