Room Temps are fine to feed them in, and JMHO i'd wait about 15 minutes or more after it has fully swallowed whatever it's eaten...As far as how long it will take to it is calm just keep handling it...snakes only tolerate handling, they don't enjoy it, like it or think it rocks hehe...Some tolerate it very well, some will get restless after several minutes and some plain ol' do not like to be held...Working with a hatchling gives you time to condition it to tolerate you...
 
I kinda skimmed over this thread, but it lookss to me as though everyone forgot about one trick. I have been told several times that taping your uth to a piece of glass or tile and then taping that to your tank is another good way to try to prevent burns. Just an idea, in case anyone is looking for something besides paper towels.
 
It depends on the snake. Some are just mellow to begin with, some are nervous and take a short time to calm, and some, like my smallest Okeetee are just nasty. It's taking her forever to mellow out, but it is happening. I don't heat the feeder box, although I did when I first started out. I think I was worried that they wouldn't eat otherwise. It won't hurt them if you do. I just put a heating pad on low underneath while they fed. When the bulge is about mid-body, you can take them back out of the container and put them back. If your container is small enough to put inside the viv, you can do that and just tip them out of there.
 
Tank size

What size tank is best UV is about 15in I have a 10 gallon and a 20l I have UV in the 10g. That is what petco suggested. But I realize they don't always give very good advice from past experince with tarantulas.

For snakes, UV isn't really necessary, as they process calcium from the bones of their prey. You can get by with a standard aquarium flourescent light - just be sure you provide a day/night "photoperiod".
