Matt Jones for Pres
Got my new rack from reptile basics today. It is exactly what i wanted. The tubs fit snuggly in and are the perfect size. It's funny when my girlfriend saw it she said exactly what I was thinking, "This doesnt mean you are getting 6 more does it?". haha uhoh :)

Looks good, Matt. Glad you like it so far. =)

I'm glad I'm not the only one who re-uses old boxes...

Well, in the beginning I purchased one of those half logs from my snow, and just threw a small listerine box with the cardboard lip still on, and even not once would she ever hang out under the purchased hide.

So I gave up on that immediately and realized i was better off just throwing in more improvised hides.

*side note* wonder if i've kept any glow light boxes, that looks like a great idea.

old boxes are great for evrything!!

I have them to aktivate my dogs aswell.. stow some dogcandy inside and the dogs have fun getting in to the reward.. and often I have "fun" wacuum up the smal peices left of the boxas.. LOL!!

I went to look for a really big hide for my to kings, and couldn't find one! So I empty to big boxes full of juice boxes (Caprisun) and cut the top of. The kings love them, and it didn't cost me $20 a piece! So now I have three hatchlings that each have a chicken livers tub as a hide. They work great!

BTW, what brand racks did you get?

Nice rack, now you just have to fill it with snakeys.. :grin01:

I'm making mine at the moment out of anything i can find free in work, nearly there...

what do you guys use for heat for those things? do you use flexwatt or just turn the heat up in the house really high? i noticed that those boxes bribrian has at the bottom appear to be huge. is it safe to put larger snakes like boas in pythons in rack systems with the sterilite bins? i figured they would be too strong and move/bend the plastic or something...

Yea it came fully assembled with the tubs in there and the lids on the side. Im lazy (and recovering from wrist surgery) so i've only drilled the tubs i need so far. The box said it weighs about 30 pounds. That is easy to believe, I'd guess around 25-30.

Also, it does seem very secure for my 2005's. I don't see any of them getting out. Also the back heat is great, I can already tell they love it.

Cool. Thanks for the info. :)

me and my friend just built our own custom rack. it truly is a peice of garbage. i took the stuff over my friend's house to build it and he had all the wrong tools and we totally butted heads the whole time building it so we ended up basically with the shelves being crooked and a lot of the wood being split from the screws haha. but we're splitting the cost and i think it only cost like 120 to make so its still cheaper than aquariums...
