To add to the topic, I would like to say that there are cages which are a compromise between the smaller, darker, safer rack tub, and the larger, open, exposed glass viv. An example would be a vision cage - plenty of room, but only transparent on the front (glass door), allowing security and space.
I go for the more space option myself, and my racks are only for juveniles, not adults. My adults are all in visions (36 x 28 x 18 inches).

The picture I have attached is very similar to the ones I bought, only the picture is of the rubermaid tubs, and I bought for the sterilite tubs which I find easier to get hold of now rubbermaid have stopped making some models.

No, I didn't make them. But I did adapt them to my needs. My employer did some remodeling and had a lot of these melamine shelves that they needed to dispose of. I gladly took all that they had, I think there 10 in all. The shelves are adjustable so I just drilled holes for the supports where they needed to be and wa-la! The press board coated with melamine is very heavy but it works well. Also, if you build some racks like these, give yourself enough clearance so they slide easily. If one is too tight, you have to readjust every shelf as every shelf is the top of one but the bottom of another!

I really like the looks of the boaphile racks. Are you using the shoebox size or the sweaterbox for snakes under a year?

actually Mark, I like their sweater box racks so much, I just sold all of my Snake Shack hatchling racks so I can purchase two of their 30 hole hatchling racks very soon. They look identical only smaller. The only thing I can say negatively so far is, the boxes do not come with air holes in them. I was under the impression that they would have them pre drilled. When I contacted Jeff, I was told that there is no need for the additional air holes because of the tiny gaps from the tops of the boxes to the shelves. Now I dont know what they breed over there but here in Mikes world, air flow is everything. It took a long time, but I burned evenly spaced air holes in each tub. I used a sodering iron. It still looks professional, and everything drys out quicker reducing the chances for fungus.
A friend of mine had the same racks and tried to talk me out of buying them. His complaint was that the tubs kept sticking and there always seemed to be mold developing on the tops of the shelves above each box. I can almost guarentee both of these problems were because he never drilled any other holes for better air flow. I plug all four of these into a RANCO thermometer and they keep those racks "ON THE MONEY" tempt wise.
They are in the process of develping a new sweater box rack because rubbermaid stopped producing 28 quart bins. When they make these available, I will probably switch over to them for my adult corns to live in. Best of luck!
