New Rifle

Love the 7mm mag! I have a Ruger model 77. Though I don't get to shoot it alot nowadays. Been shooting handguns more lately. My friend would like your new gun. He gophers with a Remmington BDL 22-250 varmint, bipod and 25x (I believe) Redfield scope.

Lets put is this way, KJ's idea of a good 100 yard deer gun, is a 45-70. For him, it is just adequate.
I don't like to brag too much, but I'm a "sniper" with my 22 year old Browning .243 Lever action . . . iron sights BTW. :shrugs: I don't get into the "fancier" stuff when it comes to guns. Kinda take after my grandpa in that regards. If it shoots straight and kills clean, why fancy it up? NOT saying there's anything wrong with people spending their money on that type of thing, I just prefer not to.

D80

PS. I think I use Federals?!?! Whatever is cheapest off the shelf and 100 grains. ;)

Mine is a Winchester Model 70. It used to belong to my dad, but he gave me a few of his guns since he doesn't really shoot anymore (He also gave me a Remington 1100 and a Lee Enfield .303 that was used in WW2).

I'm thinking about getting a Remington 870 with an extended mag. My dad and I are getting into skeet and since he doesn't have a shotgun anymore I feel guilty for taking his 1100 (They're expensive!). :p

I have an 870 express black synthetic chambered for 3 1/2 supers. Have not shot it much lately either. Have a Remington 700 ADL .270, a Ruger mini14 .223, an old Remmington nylon 66 .22 (my first real gun), a .32 5 shot revolver (used to be grandfathers handed down thru my father), a Ruger Mark III .22 stainless with bull barrel, a Ruger P85 9mm (second gen single piece barrel), a Beretta 92F 9mm, and a Ruger Redhawk .44 7 1/2" stainless. Also used to have a Czech CZ75 9mm but gave it to a friend that helped me in the past.

Very nice. My first rifle was a Lakefield (Now Savage Arms) repeater .22. Still have it - I use it to teach new people how to use a firearm safely. The bolt action makes it much safer than a semi-auto.

It'd be cool to get a pistol, but it's a huge hassle to have one in Canada, so I'll probably just pass on it altogether. In order to own a pistol, I have to upgrade my license to Restricted (Just requires a safety course, not a big deal) AND belong to a registered gun club (This is the part I'm not interested in doing). That means I have to pay a yearly club fee just to have a pistol.

Okay, so I got out shooting today. The Ruger looks pretty awesome with a mag loaded:

The ammo I was using is pretty cheap - Winchester Super-X 37 grain high velocity. Nothing special, only a bit more expensive than Federal, which jams like crazy in my rifle.

Here's my best grouping of the day (50 yards):

I am VERY happy with that rifle to say the least!

my rifle project

So, you inspired me. Granted my bolt action is for airsoft not varmints!

I started almost 2 years ago with a Stock Maruzen APS2-SV Bolt Action Sniper Rifle.

And after some hunting and shopping for prices over this timeframe I was able to find all but 7 parts, 5 of which I was able to fid this AM that should be arriving in 2 days.

Stock it fired its .29 gram 6mm pellet 287 feet per second, now it fires a .30 gram pellet 491 fps and per the law it is firing under 600 fpswith a .20 and for State Rules for the sport it is firing under 550 fps with a .20 at 535-7 fps.

For those unfamiliar with the sport it is a milsim sport similar to paintball but far more tactically inclined with many ex/active LEO's and members of the US military playing.
More information can be found at FloridaAirsoft.com

Please understand we do all we can to keep this sport legal and keep airsoft out of the hands of minors and away from those who would brandish it in public (in other words, away from morons!)

Anyway here is the complete build-up list:

Stock Maruzen APS2-SV - $280

Tasco 30mm 3-9x hunting scope - $215

Sling - $20

I am resurrecting this thread because once again, I have a NEW rifle. :D

Look at how small the rounds are! They are so cute!

I ran through a few factory rounds, but I quickly went to handloading. I'm starting with Hornady V-Max 40 grain bullets and IMR 4895 powder. My best group of the first day of testing was way better than I expected:

Yep, that's 1.2 inches at 200 yards. So already I'm getting 0.6 MOA at 200 yards out of that rifle. In fact, despite how small the round was, I was consistently hitting a small steel target at 600 yards after I was through doing my testing and just having fun. Such a nice rifle. And cheap ammo, too! It's less than half the cost per bullet with handloaded ammunition than the 7mm Mag (Which I no longer have, anyway).

I dont know why but the minute I saw this thread i thought ruger. I have a rem. 597 personally. It is decked out to shoot squirrels from 50 yards +!! My brother in law has a ruger 10/22, he loves it. but I dont like the clip on them, and compared to my 597 his ruger looks like a toy.
