have just got my new snake set up and just got a few questions.

I got one of the plastic thermostats with the set up and is going up and down like tigger so thats going in the bin.Any one got any good digital one's witha a probe????

Also how long will it be for the viv to get up to normal running temp.

One last thing

Have i got the viv how it should be have got hide on top of heat mat on the right water bowl and second hide on the left and branch goin from side to side at an angle.Thermostat probe on heat mat inside the viv

heat mat is under the viv with the thermostat probe inside the viv on the top of the ware the mat is

cool, just wasn't sure! not sure about thermostats, I've got rheostats on mine, but there'll be someone here that can help

Sounds like your set up right as far as placement goes. Whats your temps at, and are you using a analong or digital thermo/hygrometer?

just bought a digital one as the the one i got with is isnt good enough. The ehat mat i have only covers jut over a 1/3 of the viv is it to small?

that sounds to be about the recomended size. As long as your temps are good (75ish on the cool side, 85ish on the warm) you should be fine.

ok cool.whe i get my new thermo i can set the temp up properly. When i get my snake how long should he be left alone to get use to his enviroment before handling and feeding.

I never use a thermostat for the heat mats and never had a problem. If you think they might be laying directly on the glass, you can tape paper towel on the bottom to insulate. I mount my heat mat to glass so that as I change vivs I can just put the new one on the old heat mat. It also acts as insulation so that it's not so hot.

my care sheet that came with the viv said the heat mat should not touch the glass of the viv is this true????can this cause problems?

Unregulated, mine have gotten up to 130'

To answer your other question, once you get your new snake, you should leave him alone for 4-7 days before handling him. I shoot for a week, but seldom last that long myself!

i keep my heat mat in the tank, all i do is wrap it up in paper towel, and tape the paper towel on, its suprising the small gaps my snakes can get through, they just nudge it with thieer nose and sum how thier in, so now its snake proofed, and they seem happy with it, they dont get burnt and the tank stays nice and warm

well i got my digital thermometer today.my t rex mechanical one said the temp was 82 and found out with the digital one it was actualy 96

Have now set it to 82.that a good average temp?

Im of to get my corn tomorow.any tips???

just picked up a beautiful 6 month carolina corn.nice deep browns n orange. He stood out in the reptiel place because he settled down nicely when holding him

My Mrs has decided to call him charlie brown

He is now hiding under the aspen with his nose pressed up against the glass at the moment

So tempted to but another now :)

How long before i feed him.going to try and leave him for a week and settle in.Should i feed him when i handle him first.
