my thermostat seams to vary from 79 to 85.is this normal or should it be a more consistant temp
 
Usually thermostats very about 2-3 degrees either side of where you want it. So that's about right. Unfortunately that's the problem with cheap on/off thermostats.
 
I don't know what kind you're using, but I've usd Zoo Med brand in a pinch. If you play with it, you can usually cut down on the fluctuation to just 3 degrees total. I don't usually use one with my corns. I have expensive proportional thermostats for my Green Tree Pythons, but they require more precise, and higher temps to remain healthy.
 
Have Bin Tweeking It Today And Have Got It To Stay Between 81 And 83 So Am Happy Now.

Still Waiting To Start To Handle My New Corn.has Only Got Him Saturday So Mite Be A Bit Early.
