new snake feed/shed

On wednesday I got my first corn from Connie over at CCCorns. She informed me on monday that she realized the snake was in blue phase, and sure enough, when he arrived on Wednesday his eyes were completely clouded over. He has been burried under the substrate since wednesday, only occasionally poking his head out to look around before going back under. I would assume from what I have read that he should be out of blue and I should be expecting the shed any day now. According to how Connie had been feeding him, he is due to eat on Saturday. My question is if he is still burried under the substrate tomorrow, should I take him out and feed him anyway? That would be a 3 day adjustment period, but I dont know how well he has adjusted since he has been blue. I am thinking better options would be to either just wait til after he sheds to offer food or even just wait til next saturday. Let me know what you think.

Definitely wait until he sheds. The extra time of adjustment should prove beneficial, after the "bumpy" ride to your house

soooo...I went into my room tonight to find him chilling in the front of the viv and found his shed skin in the back. It all came off in one piece, eyecaps to the end of the tail.

When I walked up to the viv, he promptly dove under the substrate :shrugs:

I think I will still wait till probably wednesday to offer food. Since he has been hiding the whole time, this will give him a few more days to get used to his new home. That will make it a full week since arriving.

Do you have hides for him, or only the substrate? You might want to provide him with a couple of hides, one on the warm, one on the cool if you don't. They can be as simple as a paper towel tube cut in half the long way, or a kleenex box with the bottom cut out. Congrats on the whole shed. Sounds like your humidity levels were just right.

Lol

Yeah, I have 1 that likes to bury herself to hide! Silly snakey . . . LOL

I'm sure it'll be fine if you want to wait a couple more days to feed him. But don't feel like he has to be totally comfortable and friendly before offering him something, I've had mine for months and they still sometimes dash off and hide when they see me, especially the one who buries herself. That's just a corn for ya . . .

I'm assuming you know they whole routine for feeding . . . so good luck when you get around to it!

And congrats on the perfect shed - that's always a good feeling!!! :)

Thanks for all of the replies

I can breath easy now, he just downed his first meal with me. I put him in a small container with a small fuzzie and when I checked a couple hours later the fuzzie was gone and the snake was hiding under the paper towels I had in the box.

I guess I should get to naming him so I can stop calling him "the snake"
