New snake owner

Hello all. I'm Kim. I just got my first snake this past Friday. I have a 13 inch long baby albino corn. Don't know if it is male or female yet. I am also still trying to come up with a good non gender specific name. I have only had my snake for a few days but I can see how they are addicting. I am already trying to hold back my temptation to buy a Blizzard corn or one of the red colored corns...so pretty *drool.* I'll post a picture of my new baby later as currently I am on the computer at my college.

Welcome

Welcome!!! They are like peanuts, you can't have just one. I started out w/ a baby normal corn last year (he was only $10). Well now I have Abbott's from SMR and 2 hognose babies and in Feb when I go to the National show in Arlington I just know I will get something new, maybe a blood red from SMR....I am absolutely addicted to them.

Kelly :shrugs:

Ohhh a show in Arlington!

Do you possibly have a link to the show details? It sounds like a blast and Arlington is an easy driving distance for me. =)

Hi Kim :wavey: Welcome to the forum!

You will find that it is very hard to fight this addiction. So don't try!

I can't wait to see pics of your snake! Have a good day at school.

Hi, Kim. Welcome! You have excellent timing... THIS coming weekend (unless it's been cancelled) right there in good ole Manassas (on PW Country fairgrounds) is a reptile show. Plenty of opportunities for you to buy many more corns. Hee.

I'm an enabler. :) Hey, psssst...wanna corn? First one's free. Come on... you know you do. Everyone's doing it...

LOL yeah i probably am doomed.. the fact I am in school for Zoology doesn't exactly scream "no animals" either. Ohhh thanks for letting me know about the show. I got him from petco.. it wasn't a planned thing. There was a lady holding the snakes and showing them to some kids so...me being me ...I have to hold them too. Long story short ... I fell in love with the little white one. I had been wanting a corn for a long time so I had done all the research ahead of time; I was planning on buying from a breeder...oh well. Would my little one be considered a Snow? I am still getting the hang of all the colors. Clicking the pictures should bring up a full size image.

Very pretty snake, it is however what appears to be a snow corn. A cross of amel and anery (?). I wondered when you said you wanted a pretty red one as amels are red and orange or white or all three red, orange and white.

Sorry should clarify and amelenistic is an albino, it's confusing because amels are not white only.

When I was talking about the reds and the whites I was talking about the Blizzards, the Bloodred, and there is a solid red one but i don't remember what the hybrid is called.

Blizzards are not red and white, bloodreds are red with a certain look to the belly. Creamsicles can be red and white or yellow, these are hybrids. Don't confuse hybrid with color as a hybrid such as a Creamsicle is a cross between emoryi rat and amel.

I think somewhere we got our lines crossed.. I wasn't referring to a red and white snake I was talking about a white snake and a red snake separately.. The red ones I was looking at are called ultramel bloodred corn, Amelanistic Bloodred Corn, and the Hypomelanistic Bloodred Corn. This link has a photo gallery of them as well as others. http://www.moreptiles.com/amel%20blood.htm
